Georgia Democrats Fake Parole!
Welcome to Democrat Politics '98! Democrats recently passed legislation to "reform" our parole system. The idea, in theory, is to impose mandatory paroles on prisoners. It appears to be a tough on crime position - a place the now liberal Democrat State Legislature has been weak in.
The Reality is that
this Parole Legislation is a complete farce! The legislation does not change the amount of time any existing or future prisoner will ever serve! What does the parole bill actually do? It allows a future State Legislature to build a list of crimes, which will, someday, require truth-in-sentencing. They are betting that the Georgian Voter will now believe the parole/crime problem has been solved by those "wuunnddeerrffuull" Democrats in the State House and re-elect them. I believe the voters of Georgia are smarter than the Democrats are counting on.The Democrats could have put at least ONE crime on the truth-in-sentencing bill. Perhaps Child Molestation, Rape or Mass Murder might be worth putting on the list. One would think they could add at least one! But no, when they passed a law that would allow someone, someday, somewhere, to add a single crime to the truth-in-sentencing list they couldn't think of a single crime that is poorly punished.
No, Democrats can't seem to do this. They pretend to be tough law-and-order types with conservative values because they need those votes to get elected. But in their hearts they remain true to the leftist direction the once honorable party has been traveling.
