PORTUGAL


Christianism was introduced in Portugal in the first century and a regular hierarchy was immediatly set up. This was severly disturbed during the islamic period, but restored during and after the Reconquista. In 1945 the country was divided into the Patriarchate of Lisboã and the two Archdioceses of Braga and Evora.

BRAGA

The diocese of Braga was established in the 4th century. It became an archdiocese in 1110. LISBÕA

The diocese of Lisbõa was established in the 4th century. It became an archdiocese in 1396 and a patriarchate in 1716.
