(1) The republics of Alto Tortonese, Torriglia - a remnant of Bobbio - 
    and Varzi were adjacent, forming in this way one vast liberated
    territory.

(2) The Republic of Ossola - also called Domodossola after its "capital" -
    was the only republic which received some recognition both by Swiss
    officials and by allied representatives in that country.
