THE CODREANU DAYS

IN TIMISOARA

 

 

In the weekend of 29-30 November 1997, the Association CONSTANTIN STOICANESCU together with the Association ACTIUNEA CRESTINA ARHANGHELUL MIHAIL organized the commemoration of Corneliu Codreanu's assassination. Together with 13 of his best comrades, he was assassinated in the night of St. Andrew (Nov. 29/30) 1938 with no legal sentence by the servants of the tyrant Carol II and his aide: the mutant Armand Calinescu.

 

 At the gathering in Timisoara participated two guests from Rome and Vienna.

 

The Codreanu Days opened with an Orthodox religious service at the Cross on the site where the Securitate executed in 1949 the Legionnaire Spiru Blanaru and his group of armed resistance against the Soviet occupant.

 

 

After the religious ceremony, the participants sang The Fallen Legionaries' Anthem and honored the martyrs with the Roman salute.

 

The same Saturday at GALERIA ROMANEASCA was organized a reunion on the theme

CODREANU AND EUROPE.

 

 

A public of about 30 people listened to the presentations of

 

The after lunch talks were concentrated on the theme

COMMUNICATION AND MOVEMENT IN EUROPE.

Sunday morning, after the Holy Liturgy, in the Church of the Students was held the Requiem mass for Corneliu Codreanu and his 13 comrades. Three Orthodox priests served and more than 50 people attended the mass.

 

This week-end aimed two objectives that were fulfilled:

  1. The evocation of Codreanu.
  2. The strengthening of European contacts.
