Why do people homeschool?
Families choose homeschool for many, many reasons. The most common and obvious today is the horrible violence that is happening in schools. I have to admit that was one of my biggest reasons. Other reasons include Religious beliefs, physical disabilities and ADD/ADHD. What ever the reason for the decision, the main reason embedded within, is the love for their children. My son was hurting. He was really hurting inside and I did not know what to do.
I have always wanted to homeschool, and I guess I always knew I would. I let society talk me out of three years with my son. Please, please don't let people tell you your child won't socialize because he/she is homeschooled.
That is simply not true. In fact, there are so many socialization opportunities that one cannot accomplish them all in a weeks time.
In 1999 there were an estimated 300,000 children around the world that were educated at home. The statistics don't include those who are too afraid to say they homeschool. Those families have been in fear of the government for years. There are still families who are afraid to do what they need to.
Our children are afraid for their lives because of the extremely violent situations that have gone on in the school house. If you are considering homeschooling I commend you. It is a decision that will often take months to make. There are plenty of helpful message boards and homepages that can help you on your quest for information. I have some of them listed here, and each site has even more listed.
