The Daria Connection
What is there to point out? Disney saw the Daria show and then came up with Cassandra. How could I ever not point this stuff out - however obvious it is to people who watch both shows. Plus I got a few Daria drawings that weren't going anywhere so what the hell, here they are. Or at least they will be here when I eventually get them scanned.
I think that Cassandra definitely started off as a Daria clone, she ended up evolving into her own character but still has loads in common with Daria. You read about both series and both characters are described as cynical, sardonic, sarcastic high school outcasts. And with all the success mtv's having with Daria why wouldn't Disney want to cash in? It's a small point - but still it's fun to bash Disney. You can go to the Prometheus academy site to see a parody of the ask Daria thing on the mtv site - ask Cassandra, of course.
But then I wonder, did they get the idea for Cassandra from Daria or Jane:
- "I don't like it when I say people should die and then they do."
Daria - "and what does your mom think
of this?"
Jane - "I dunno...When she gets back from the painted dessert I'll ask her if she had a vision."
and then there is a much more frightening thought - where did they get the Idea for Icarus?
Upchuck and Icarus in their little fantasy worlds
You could say that Helen's similar to Brittany - but then every high school related TV show needs to have the token ditsy blonde. There is Quinn - who's supposed to be the most desirable girl in Lawndale High - but I think she's more like Adonis: self absorbed, snotty, acts like they're the most important - and of course beautiful people on earth...also - Helen's whole thing in the Greek myths is that she's the most sought after woman in the world - but I don't recall any myth saying Adonis was self-absorbed - so that makes it more likely that Disney's looking elsewhere for it's ideas again.
And finally - some of those little ol' Daria makeover things that they have at the end of each episode. I can never get enough of these things.
Well that's all there is here, time for you to head on back to the main page.
