The hit TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation is based on the old Degrassi, back in the day when people had Afros.

Degrassi talks about kids' problems like cutting, child abuse, sex, drugs, alcohol and much more. One reason why the new show is so popular is the amazing cast; and I'm here to interview Cassie Steele, who plays "Manny Santos."

Q What was your first acting experience?

A Well, my first acting experience was actually in commercials, but my first television show was Relic Hunter. Then I started acting in Degrassi as Manny Santos.

Q How long have you been acting?

A I started acting when I was 10. I did commercials and television shows, but I started acting on Degrassi when I was 12 years old. But my whole acting experience was for four years.

Q Can you relate to your character on Degrassi?

A I think all girls can relate to Manny because she has a lot of changes at age 13 with trying to fit in, wanting to change her look, school, friends and more.

Q Did you watch the old Degrassi back in the day?

A Actually that was my favourite show when I was growing up, because I thought I could relate to the characters in the show.

Q Is there any more acting experience in your future?

A I want to still act in Degrassi, but then I want to expand my opportunities as an actor such as in movies.

Q Are you close with your co-workers on Degrassi?

A All the cast members are all close because we all live in Toronto. But when we're shooting Degrassi we're practically family, except my sister Alex - who is my family - who plays Angie on Degrassi.

Q What advice would you give young actors out there?

A If you want to act it takes patience, but try to start off with acting classes, which are fun and helpful - and get to meet other kids who also want to act.

But if you want to act professionally, it would be smart to get an agent to find auditions.
