SARAH BARRABLE-TISHAUER'S TOP TEN TIME WASTERS OF 2005!
"because wasting time isn't always a bad thing"
10. Cheer! …as Madonna hits the top of the charts, again!
9. Cry! …as Six Feet Under wraps up their last season.
8. Pass! …on “Ugggh” Boots. They are so over!
7. Hope! …that Martha Stewart goes back to jail. Hey – I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks her comeback was oh so LAME! I mean, come on, her line on the Apprentice is “you don’t fit in!; somehow not as catchy as “you’re fired”!
6. Yawn! …as Hollywood’s cutest couples break up (like we all didn’t expect it!) Here’s to Brad & Jen, Nick & Jess, Chad & Sofia and, of course, Paris & Paris!
5. Flush! …“The OC” Season 3 down the toilet. What ever happened to the awesomeness we witnessed in Season 1?
4. Dance! …to some of the catchiest songs of all time. (if you say you don’t sing along to Hollaback Girl, We Belong Together, My Humps or 1,2 Step, you’re lying!)
3. Wonder! …why Nicole was ever engaged to DJ AM and Christina ended up with Jordan! These beauties could’ve done SO much better!
2. Flinch! …as Tom Cruise goes completely INSANE! What with all the couch-surfing and almost killing Oprah, all I can say is…poor, poor Katie!
1. Don’t Cha want to…… Clench your fists! …as the Pussycat Dolls sing their one-hit-wonder for the 5 BILLIONTH time (with the exact same choreography, I must add)!

Ha, yay! Those girls are awesome. Ok, that's my last N'sider EVER (in 2005)! So... bye! Happy 2006, you guys, I'm fairly certain it's going to be the best year ever. We're due for one.

Newsflash: Aubrey Graham smells REALLY GOOD

I talked to Cassady the Sweepstakes Winner (she should put that on her business cards) about her amazing couple of days in Toronto and her extra-amazing day on the set of Degrassi, and here's how it went:

So how was Toronto?!

It was awesome. We had basically had three days to just walk around Toronto and check it out, go shopping and stuff. My friend and I spent most of the money -- all but like a hundred dollars basically -- on vintage clothing and food and stuff. We went all down Queen St back and forth every day 'cause my mom didn't really want to drive us anywhere.

So what's it like to just go into a store and know you can buy anything you want?

Oh my gosh it was so cool, we could just like go in and be like "Oh, that's so cool. I want it." And not have to be like "Do I have enough money?" Basically, we bought whatever we wanted the first day, and then later on we got more careful with the money.

What was your favorite piece that you got?

Actually a couple things... I got an anarchy symbol T-shirt, and then I got a skirt that has the front page from a newspaper after the Sid Vicious thing. Those are my favorite things that I got. And I also got some Vans that are really too small but I wear them anyway. They're like $15 cheaper than they are here.

So what did you wear to the Degrassi set?

Just some jeans and a T-shirt that I got at Blue Notes, it says "I love hockey players" on it. I still wear it. When I got back, I found out that a bunch of my friends are hockey players.

What was it like when you first walked in?

I was like, "Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm actually here." It was insane. My friend had never met any celebrities before so when we saw Aubrey Graham and Jake Epstein, she was like 'Oh my god oh my god oh my god.' We got to hang out with Aubrey and Jake for a while and I got to meet Shane and Lauren, and they were really cool. We talked to Cassie Steele for a little while, and she was actually really quiet! I totally didn't expect that 'cause Manny is such the like talkative person! So weird.

Did you get to meet Stacey??! [Ellie is Cassady's favorite character]

No! We didn't.

Oh nooo!

We did for like ten minutes and we were doing our thing on set so we couldn't really... I was like, 'Noooo!'

Such a bummer! So were you in a scene?

Yeah, I was in a scene where [tee hee] and [uh huh] are in the mall about to go to a movie or whatever, and my friend and I are in the background just pretending to have a conversation. And we're just like "This is so weird!" 'Cause everything is really scaled down, so we were like "I feel really cramped at this little 3x5 -- not even that-- table."

Wait, why is stuff scaled down?

I don't know, they said the camera makes it look bigger, so they have to make it smaller than it actually would be. It was weird though 'cause Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were there and like half of the gym is all camera gear, and they were doing stunts and we were like "That must be so hard for them 'cause it's so small!" It's like Quarter-Gym. Half-Gym.

Did you get to see the school set?

Yeah, we got there really early and they didn't need us 'til a particular scene so we just got to walk around all day. And we were outside and they were doing a photo shoot for a magazine with Deanna [that's Alex], Lauren and Shane, and we talked to Lauren and Shane for a little while. And Lauren was SO NICE! I was expecting this [bleepy] attitude that Paige has but she was so nice!

And is Shane not a big... [bleep]?

No! He's so nice! He's really loud though. Spinner's my favorite male character. So I was like "He's just perfect. He's gorgeous, he's tall, he's smart, he's perfect."

Was anyone taller or shorter than you thought they'd be?

Cassie Steele was really short, I'm not terribly tall myself but she was shorter than I am. I always imagined her as being really tall 'cause Jake Epstein is really tall and they always looked so close in height when they were doing their whole thing.

So what were Aubrey and Jake like? What did you guys talk about?

They actually had us in the classroom where they were doing their tutoring. And they were like "Come in and stay as long as you want 'cause we don't want to do our homework!" My friend was like "Oh my God, Aubrey smells really GOOD!" And I was like "oh my god he DOES!" Jake was wearing a Bob Marley shirt, and I was like "Bob Marley! Sweet" and he was like "Sweet! You know who he is!" It was cool; basically all we talked about was music.

Did you form any crushes on anyone that you thought you hadn't really liked before?

Yeah, I did, actually. I didn't really like Craig that much, I just didn't. And now I'm like obsessed with him. And Jimmy too! 'Cause he's such the like gangster hip hop style and I usually like totally opposite of that, and so I was like "He's actually really, really hot!" And I love him now.

Did anyone go out of their way to look after you and make sure you were having a good time?

Yeah, throughout the whole day, we hung out with Jake for like half an hour at least, and he would just come talk to us and I felt really special. I was like 'Wow, I feel so loved today.'

Aww! Did you see any intense scenes getting filmed, anything really emotional?

Um, sort of... the whole thing with [la la la la la].

So was it weird watching somebody go into that sort of..

It was sort of weird but I sort of know how that goes because I've done some acting, too. So I was like, "They get really into their character." 'Cause they'd cut the scene and they'd just be sitting their laughing about something and then like five seconds later, they'd be right back into character and be all pissed and stuff...

That's awesome. What were the adults and producers like?

They were really nice... my friend was getting aggravated because she was so not used to being around theatre and stuff, and so one producer was like "no talking, no talking" and she was like "Why can't we talk? I want to talk!"

That's hard, especially when there's so much to talk about. So what was your favorite moment or your favorite memory?

I think just the whole day was the best part. Being able to just be around these people that I see on television and know their characters so well, but I don't know anything about them besides what you can find on the Internet basically. So it was awesome just being able to meet them and find out what they're really like.

So do you want to go into acting some day?

My friend and I actually have this plan that when I turn 18, we're gonna skip town and go to LA and start an independent film company. That's our life's goal...

The-Mary

The Thin Line Between Cassie Steele and Manny Santos
posted 05/31/2004

Happy No-School Day! Are you eating a hot dog? I am totally eating a hot dog.

5 DAYS 'TIL NEW DEGRASSI EPISODES! I'M JUST SAYIN'!!

So, now that you got all caught up on the first two seasons of Degrassi over the weekend, tonight it's time for the really real jonx: season 3, wherein Manny gets all... uh... assertive in her Craig-lust. Which, I'm sure you can understand.

So, it's share time! Now, you know when I talked to Cassie Steele at Countdown to Degrassi I had to ask her the "Manny Santos: Evil or Misunderstood" question. And let me just say, she duh-hefinitely comes down on the "misunderstood" side. In fact she was even all, "Ashley is totally wrong for Craig" and for a second I was like "wait, am I talking to Cassie or Manny?" In fact I actually called her Manny at one point by mistake, and I was so embarrassed but she was like "That's OK -- everybody does, even my friends call me Manny."

She also said she definitely likes playing New Manny better than Old Manny. She's all, "I mean, it's cute dressing up in braids and pink and purple tie dye shirts. But then when I had to wear that thong, it was just like this is so embarrassing, but so great at the same time."

So, go relive that thong moment with her tonight when you watch 8 billion hours of hot Degrassi action before you head back to -- ugh -- school. Hang in there, hon, summer vacation is right around the corner, and NEW DEGRASSI EPISODES START FRIDAY! Eeeeee!

Luv,
The-Mary
