Attendees were arriving from every known realm, and some unknown ones as well. King and Queen Lapis were among the first to arrive, gallantly flying in with their dragon chariot. |
The aerial view was amazing, especially the forest and the rivers they saw as they neared the city. "Look, honey," Queen Lapis turned to her husband, "Someone is already setting camp there."
"That must be the Brown Council," he replied.
"Oh." she exclaimed, "They’re the leaders of the Foresters, right?"
"Yes, from the Wild Forest in Skyllar realm," the king answered, "But we wouldn’t want to associate with them."
"Of course not. How can they stay out in the wild like that? Hrmph. Obviously some uncivilized tribe."
|
The chariot was approaching the city itself, and started descending. The guards steered the dragons and signaled them with a single whipping that they need to start circling the town. The dragons seemed to cringe a little; the painful bits in their mouths would hurt even more every time the guards tugged to steer them. Her highness saw more tents, and someone was already parked with a huge airship.
"That’s Vincent Gage’s airship," the king said, with a twinge of awe. "The construction is very interesting. I can’t wait to swap some ideas with him."
|
The guards landed the chariot in a clearing in the center of town, between the church and a big inn that, to quote the Queen, "fit our color scheme perfectly". Excitement was brimming all around them: the market was teeming with people, kings and queens were walking around with guards and chit-chatting with other royalty... the king noticed a few guards standing around with no apparent affiliation.
"Who are those?" he asked his guards, "Do you know?"
"They must be the Blank Shields, your Highness," one of them spoke up, "Mercenaries, under someone named The Captain."
"I heard they were hired by Auld Dragon to keep the peace around here," said the other.
"Ahh, I see - security forces of a sort." Lapis snapped his fingers and grimaced. "Means we can't pull off anything too horrible." |
"King Lapis? It’s a pleasure," the king heard a voice behind him. He turned to see two men clad in armor. "Vincent Gage."
"Vincent Gage!" the king exclaimed, "Good to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you."
"This is my second in command, Kain," Vincent introduced the man next to him.
"This is my wife, Queen Lapis."
"It’s an honor, my fair lady," Vincent said with a smile.
Lapis asked the guards to leave, and the Queen decided to go with them. "I’ll go see if Shelly made it yet," she said.
|
Vincent was perplexed. "Shelly, your highness?"
"My rebellious daughter," the king sighed. "She has this crazy idea that she should be humble and unimposing. She rode here in a tiny horse-drawn carriage, no less..."
Vincent shook his head. "I’m sure it's just a phase," he reassured him.
"Perhaps, but there is even more on her mind now than usual. She is still mourning our son, her brother, Justin, who died six months ago. His charred, burnt remains were found in the courtyard of Cair Parsifal 4 days after his 12th birthday. We suspect it was done by that devil, Mephisto. He has been wreaking havoc in our realm, Brjunestjia..."
Vincent looked down, not knowing quite how to respond...
"But let us not dwell on such matters," the king hurriedly changed the subject. "Have you heard of my new air craft?"
"No, indeed," Vincent replied, his eyes lighting up.
"I see much future potential in the craft, Le Podray Scer. It is a Dragon chariot, quite ingenuitive, with combined steering for both dragons..."
Vincent listened, and in turn boasted his modern airship, using amazing powers unbeknownst to most. He recounted the tales of his capture of Valkayria Castle to King Lapis, who was intrigued.
