Shay has a white blood cell count!  Ever since the radiation and chemotherapy, her white blood count (WBC) has been >.1 -- today for the first time she is .2!!!  This means -- drumroll please -- that her marrow is working!  She still has a long way to go, and is still getting platelets and blood but has started to turn the corner.  She said that her mouth is starting to feel better and it seems it is a bit easier for her to speak now.  Cross fingers she doesn't get sick, because there still isn't enough to fight off any sort of an infection. Her blood pressure is running high today - last reading was 149/85.  If she gets to 150, they sell <G>  Actually, if it gets to 150 they add a blood pressure med into the mix.  Suuuuure, like she's not taking enough stuff as it is ;~)

I think sometime today, I'm going to put up a page on the website with a running total of her blood work.  I can't figure out how to do a graph, so it'll just be numbers, but that way if anyone is interested (and I doubt if anyone will be, but that's okay) they can see the progression.

I have to tell you about some of the nurses we have here, since the good news with Shay is continuing.  So far, I have been amazed at the people they have working here at Cooks.  The nurses are helpful, informative, and deal so well with the kids.  I wish I could list everyone right now, but my brain isn't up to it, but I will list a few of the ones who stand out at this moment.  First would *have* to be Steph and Heather.  These are Shay's night nurses, and they do kind of work in tandem as Heather is new hear on the floor and Steph is helping her learn the ropes.  Last night was hilarious -- they have to do mouth care and vitals on Shay at around 9 o'clock at night.  Between the two of them, they had us giggling so badly.  Then, to add to the mix, they hollered at Jeanie (one of the other nurses) to come tell us "her joke".  This is it --

Jeanie:    Shay, do you have holes in your panties?
Shay:      No, I don't.
Jeanie:    Then how do you get your feet in?

Booooo... <G>

I do have to be careful what I write about them, as they now know the website address <G>.  Wouldn't want them to *pick* on anyone, would we?

And, one more thing before I close this out.  Last night on one of my newsgroups, a gentleman named Ashen Shugar posted this in his sig, and I loved it enough to include it here:

> The lions sing and the hills take flight,
> The moon by day and the sun by night,
> Blind woman, deaf man, jackdaw fool,
> Let the Lord of Chaos party,
> Cos Shay's doing well!!!

I just think that is so cool...  Thank you, Ashen.
