August 6, 2001 And the countdown has begun... Shay's not happy right now, because they are pushing her to drink 4 oz. every hour. That doesn't sound like a whole lot to you and I, but to a kid who hasn't kept much of anything down for the past month or more, that is a lot. She's doing it, but she's not happy about it. And, once they send us to RHM, if she doesn't *keep* drinking, then we'll be back here again. Ugh... She's having a fair amount of muscle pain -- combination of not moving around enough and the morphine ending, I guess. I am hoping to start moving stuff over to the RMH today -- if we get a room. For sure I'm going to start taking stuff out to the car -- we've accumulated a lot of books, somehow <G>. I am going to donate a lot of the ones we brought with us from home to the RHM's meditation room. They can always use more books... Rented Shay a few movies over the weekend. "Dracula 2000", "The Haunting" and "Urban Legends - Final Cuts". So far we've watched the first two, and she was *amazed* to find out that "The Haunting" was from a book (Shirley Jacksons' 'The Haunting Of Hill House' -- wants me to get it for her from the library when I go back. All in all, that is about it. Cassie flies back from Ohio sometime today -- can't wait to talk to her again. I am hoping to find out whether we can have her tutored up here with Shay. If not, then friends of ours have said that she can stay there for the few weeks from when school starts until we get home. School starts in Axtell on 8/16 -- remember the good old days when it was the Tuesday after Labor Day? <G> Missy UPDATE: I am so darned mad I could spit! Just got an email from my wonderful HR lady -- I had asked her to check and see if my insurance would cover a wig -- although the call it a cranial prosthetic, for medical purposes. Shay is so self concious about not having any hair (and she won't have any for quite a while) and cries every time she thinks about having to go out in public with a bald head. Well, surprise, surprise -- they'll pay for a tummy tuck but not a wig. :~( So, I'm going to have to come up with the money somehow and get her one myself. There are some medical wig shops here in Ft. Worth and I'll get her sized when we get out of here. I'll take pictures and let y'all know how it goes. Home Page |
