*** 25 December 2002 - Christmas Charts TOTP

The battle for the Christmas number one is never more fierce than when three of the contenders are a direct result of pop's most recent birthing pool, the hugely successful Popstars: The Rivals. This year they have dominated the top three with rivals band Girls Aloud standing tall at number one replacing Blue feat. Elton John. Despite claims of deviousness and duplicity, mostly from the boys and heralded by Pete Waterman himself, the boys have gone straight in at number two with the Cheeky Girls bringing up the rear, so to speak. Avril Lavigne has her second consecutive top ten hit with Sk8er Boi and Las Ketchup stay in the chart for a staggering 11th week. The top four albums remain set in stone... again. Sir Reggie and Westlife swap places but that's about as exciting as it gets, or so you might think. Robbie's latest effort is now officially the biggest selling album of the year and puts the Robster firmly in first place. Atomic Kitten's album 'Feels So Good' drops several places while Shania Twain and Ronan Keating both make an assured hop, skip and jump into the top twenty. Fleetwood Mac also enter the chart at number 34 with 'The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac'.

*** 29 October 2002 - Ronan's 1m euro Island by Declan Fahy, Irish Mirror  - Ronan Keating has been captivated by the tiny island he intends to buy. The former Boyzone star, 25, recently visited Inishturkbeg in Clew Bay, Co Mayo (Ireland) which is for sale at 1.2 million euro.
Ronan will be close to friends and family if he decides to buy the island, which is five miles from Westport. His friend and mentor Louis Walsh bought the nearby island of Inishdaskey three years ago.
And Ronan's older brother Kieran, lives in the area where he runs a pub with his wife. The property's agent Dominic Daly said Ronan's prospective home ahs a private water supply and its own energy source. He added: "You can live a largely self-sufficient life there. While some of the other islands are exposed, Inishturkbeg is sheltered from the weather." It is a very secluded part of the beautiful Clew Bay". Ronan's main home in his Abington estate in Malahide, Co. Dublin, where he lives with his model wife Yvonne Connolly and their two children, Jack and Marie. The island's previous owners, a Dutch couple, decided to sell the property two years ago but a slowdown in the housing market hit interest.
The island's independent power source is a windmill, but this is backed up by solar panels and a diesel generator. And all of the waste is treated on the island or recycled in Westport. The main house in flanked by an orchard, vegetable gardens, flower beds and outbuildings. It also boasts two garages one of which is used to store an amphibious vehicle that can transport farming supplies (!!?).But Ronan will have to use a boat to make the 15 minute journey to the island from Westport. Many of the islands in Clew Bay are barren and deserted - the biggest is Clare Island which has 150 inhabitants. Electricity only arrived there four years ago and it is often difficult to reach the island in bad weather. The house Ronan has viewed is a modern construction and is in good condition. Ronan and Louis Walsh are not the only celebrities to have shown an interest in the island off Co Mayo. Clew Bay is also home to Dornish, the island bought by John Lennon in the 1960's.The Beatles legend paid just £1,900 for the island in 1966 and let it out a few years later to a hippy commune - but severe weather forced them back to the mainland.

Meanwhile, on 18th November, Ronan will head off to Paris again to shoot the video for a duet with French artist Cecilia Cara for ‘Je T’aime Plus Que Tout’ – it’s a French version of ‘I Love It When We Do’.

***11 October 2002 -October 10, 2002 - September 2002 - Platinum Europe Awards

This month's seven Platinum Europe Awards include the just-released Elvis 30 # 1 Hits. Even 25 years after his death, the King of Rock 'n' roll still has the Midas touch - his latest release achieving national gold awards in eleven European countries, and national platinum in three more on the way to its first Platinum Europe Award. The album packages all Elvis' no.1 hits in the USA or UK, in roughly chronological sequence beginning with Heartbreak Hotel and ending with bonus track A Little Less Conversation, the Elvis vs. JXL single that dominated the charts this summer.Coldplay's second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, follows its predecessor Parachutes in being honoured with a Platinum Europe Award. The band has had a great year, with an emotional headlining performance at Glastonbury Festival in the summer. This critically-acclaimed release of eleven songs mixes lush melodies with Chris Martin's soulful vocals. Renaud has sold over 12 million albums in his lifetime so far but this year's Boucan D'Enfer is the first of the French singer/songwriters' albums to be awarded Platinum Europe status. The new album heralds another renaissance for the terminally hip 50 year old, who was honored at last year's French Victories with a lifetime achievement award. Also new to the Platinum Europe awards, Brit-born and Euro-friendly queen of the dance floor Sophie Ellis Bextor has hit the one million mark with Read My Lips. Her first album release since her days with the audience, it is full of stylish and sophisticated pop and includes last year's big hits Take Me Home and Murder on the Dance floor as well as the song that started it all Groovejet (If This Ain't Love). Ronan Keating has left Boyzone well behind him with second solo album release Destination, which has achieved one million sales in Europe. With songs mostly co-written and produced with Gregg Alexander and Rick Nowles, and a wide range of vocal styles explored, this album confirms Ronan as a mature talent far
beyond teen pop.September's multi-Platinum winners are Britney Spears whose third album Britney gains a second Platinum Award, and Columbian superstar Shakira, who sees Laundry Service chalk up a third Platinum Europe Award.
