The Island Birds Tour



E.T.: What a good big breakfast! Where is efurykitty?

Phelicity: Mewsette went back upstairs to get her hat. And Ginger furgot her camera.

E.T.: Dey better hurry, our Birds Tour starts real soon. I'll giff mew yer ticket and brochure now while we're waiting.

Phelicity: Thank mew.



Mewsette: Here we are! Lookit, I found this book about all the Island birds! There's ofur 300 kinds of birds here!
(Hmmm. And I gots company, too.)




The kitties soon leave the official tour and run off by themselves.

Ginger: Here, let's go ofur this way. I hear rustling efurywheres!

E.T.: Ahhh... dat's what I wanted to see. A great big blue heron! Look Phelicity, he really is blue.

Phelicity: Oooh, he's so big! I wonder could I get closer. I'll tippie-toe. Quick, where's my camera?

Mewsette: Here it is. Try to keep your paw outta the lens this time. Oh, look in that tree!





E.T.: Dat's a redheaded woodpecker up dere. Wow, I nefur saw dat kind of woodpecker. He looks like Woody, He-he-he-Hee-he, he-he...



Ginger: E.T., shhhh! He really is pecking at da wood. Is he looking fur bugs to eat? Ooh, I want to take a picture of him!

Mewsette: Looks kinda tasty hisself, doesn't he. Oh, I gotta quit drooling on my book.

Phelicity: Meowie-wow! Sisfur, look up there! Dat's the biggest bird I efur saw inna tree! Is that a whatcha-callit mew wanted to see?

Mewsette: Oh! It is! That's a giant Pileated Woodpecker. Oh my, shhh! I always wanted to see of those! They get ofur two feet tall!

E.T.: Dat's a big guy all right! Dere, I got a picture of him. Look thru my binoculars!




Ginger: Is dat a real stork ofur there? Wow, look how big it is!

Phelicity: Mewhehe! Look how long his legs is, too. I thought they was all white. Where's my camera?

Mewsette: In your pocket? Yup, it must be a stork. I didn't know some had dark heads, eiffur.

E.T.: Meowza, some of these birds are bigger dan us. Da little ones must be hiding.

Ginger: Dere here, I found some purrdy liddle feathers. Look up! Mew hear singing in da trees?





Phelicity: Oh, how purrty! That one looks like a liddle canary, it's the one singing. Mmmmm.

Mewsette: That's a yellow warbler, it says in the book. I gotta quit drooling on my book. Do I hear anoffur songbird?

Ginger: It's coming from ofur there! The liddle brown song sparrow. (I betcha we coud catch him!)

Phelicity: (I betcha we could, too. Let's go!)

E.T.: Dey sing a nice duet! Shhh! There's a bird ofur dere in the grass lookin' at us. Dat's a nutcracker, isn't it? Look thru my binoculars.



Mewsette: I think so, I nefur saw one of them befur, eiffur. What are mew gurrls chasing?

Ginger: Who, us? Nobody. Nuthin. We's picking up bird feathers. (pant pant) See?

Phelicity: (pant pant, Missed him, shoot! I gots room in my pocket, too.) See that real black bird? That's a grackle. I saw one inna book. E.T, has mew got my camera?

E.T.: Here it is. Look, hold your paw under it instead of on the side, like I showed mew.

Ginger: (He's on the ground, too.)

Phelicity: Just a minit, I wants to ...umm, find a black feather furst.

Mewsette: Where did they go?

E.T. Would mew believe feather-hunting?

Mewsette: Mewhehe! Not fur one minit.


Time flies like birds, but the kitties were happy with an extra-long Birds Tour!
