Pilgrimage of the Society of St. Pius X to Rome, 2000

The Society of St. Pius X led a 'Pilgrimage of Tradition' to Rome in the Holy Year of 2000 with some 5500 pilgrims in attendance - easily the largest pilgrimage to Rome of the year. The pilgrimage demonstrated the fervour and strength of the Society, which is certainly the largest and best know single traditionalist groups in the world today. Since 2000 the Vatican has made many attempts to reconcile the Society to the mainstream Church by regularizing their status. Negotiations are still in progress.
