Don't Desert Me Now
By Cathy Roberts

I sat alone in my room with closed eyes,
Trying to escape the world.
When all seemed quiet, I opened my eyes
But I only saw blood and decay.

As if in a dream, I opened my ears
And my soul was ripped apart by dying screams.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken us?

You tell to rejoice and love my enemies.
Yet how can I rejoice when death surrounds me.
I can no longer see you.
How can I love my enemies
When they laugh as I die.

God, please don’t desert me now.
