A root mudra
This is called "Gassho" and most people have
done it at least once.
Why do we do it?
The hands symbolize many things or concepts,
but all have something in common-
the joining of two opposides.
Neuroscientists claim that we have two brainsides
each with different functions and modes.
- the left side which controls the right side of the body,
is said to be rational, logical, etc.
- the right brainside, which controls the left bodyside
is emotional, connective, holistic etc.
So by linking our hands we also link ouer brain,
we lock the energy and allow it to flow from side to side.
But it can mean more if you like:
In Mikkyo the right hand stands for the Buddha-realm,
the unborn suchness, the inner diamond universe.
The left stands for the finite realm of born beings,
the outer womb universe.
Or if you prefer chinese dualism:
the right means Heaven, spirit, or yang.
the left stands for Earth, matter, or yin.
By doing Gassho we link the worlds,
realms on microcosmic level and so partake in making
Whole.
