We hop over to the Isle of Man for a chat with Energy FM's Nicola J!

"Originally from West Midlands, but now on the Isle of Man."

Age? (very optional!!!)
"b. 1st March 1978 = 27 (in 2005)"

"New York City"

"That’s a toughy – Urrrm….Commerical Dance and Good old Pop!!!!"

Any special qualifications/achievements that you're proud of?
"I work in the Finance Sector on the Isle of Man by day and I’ve achieved some extra qualifications from that, so I’m quite proud of that I guess.."

First job?
"Office Junior – I HATED IT !!"

Best job?
"This one probably!!"

How did you get started in doing what you do?
"Through alcohol !!!!!!!"

How long ago?
"Initially I started in February 2001 as a volunteer on another station,
but I’ve had my own show since Energy started in July 2001."

Where would you have been seen or heard since you
started broadcasting?
"Energy FM used to just cover the Isle of Man (approx 80,000 people). Since going online in 2004, we can now be heard all over the world
(scary thought). Check it out –
www.energyfm.net"

Best on-air moment?
"I don’t actually think I’ve had one – other then my first ever show."

Worst on-air moment (embarrassing or otherwise)?
"When I was talking about the second Lord of the Rings film and accidentally said “Twin Towers” instead of “Two Towers”
– I still beat myself up over it."

Describe a typical working day (if there is such a thing!)
"My 9-5 job can be very demanding and there’s nothing typical.
Everyday is different!  With Energy FM, I’m on air on a Sunday afternoon, so it’s nice and chilled until I walk into the studio and then
(some weeks) it’s go, go, go!!"

Any ambitions left?
"Loads! But I can’t think of any right now!”

Biggest influence in your life?
"Without a doubt – My Mum !!"

Best advice that you've been given and why?
1) "There’s no such thing as a wrong decision, it was the right decision for the moment.

2) Energy’s MD always says “No news is good news” – if he’s not in touch with me, my show is OK (Phew!)"

Any hobbies or special interests?

"Energy FM is really a hobby I suppose!"

Any advice for those who want to get started in radio?

"Try, try, try and keep flammin’ trying.
If you really really want to do it you will."

Thanks to Nicola for answering our questions, listen every Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm on Energy FM.
