Primary 'Stakeholders' meet to discuss possibility of community safety audit

For only the second time in the Bells Corners area, primary stakeholders - the residents who live, play and work in the area, met to discuss community safety. 1999 was the first time such a meeting took place. Under the direction of the first safety audit committee let by former Counsellor Molly Mcgoldrick-Larsen, this group took on a safety audit that encompassed several areas of Bells Corners.

This time, the audit group consisted of representatives from the four condominium townhouses on Moodie Drive and off Hadley Court, plus representatives from Axia Property Management and the Women's Action Committee Against Violence (WACAV). Many issues were discussed, including the need for a comprehensive audit of the Moodie Drive, Robertson Road and Richmond area. As well, we went over a draft checklist for conducting the walk-about process; and to define the zones for the audit.

A date of October 22 was decided for the walk-about and other meetings are planned. The group is working on getting co-operation from the various secondary stakeholders as well as area business and the community at large. Once additional meetings are scheduled, notices will be sent asking for volunteers from the community.
