It's summer. The days are warm and long, filled with seemingly endless hours of bright sunshine. You just can't resist the urge to lie back, catch a few rays and tan your winter weary skin.

People with fair skin are most susceptible burns caused by the sun (or tanning lamp). But no matter the skin type, the harmful effects of these burns can be sustained by anyone.

Prevention is the best solution. Don't stay outdoors too long and never leave tender skin exposed for more than a few minutes at a time. Wear a light, sun repellent cover over bathing suits or other light clothing. Always keep your head and eyes protected.

Sunburns:

Sunburns can be very serious. Ranging from mild discomfort to severe burning over a large portion of the body, a bad sunburn can also be further complicated by heatstroke. Children can be more susceptible to sunburns that adults. So please remember to use a sun block or sun screen. Ask at a drug store if your not sure what type to buy or use for children.

Use charcoal electric starter of an approved type or chemicals in cake form to start your charcoal fire.
Never use gasoline, naphta or other such flammable materials.
Never add fire starter after you have started your barbecue to speed a slow or rekindle a dying fire.
Tuck dry kindling under coals.
Make sure the BBQ stand is level and steady. keep a water container nearby when the coal is burning.
When cooking is over, soak the coals so to prevent their re-ignition.
Never keep damp or wet charcoal in an unventilated area due to the dangers of spontaneous combustion that can result from drying.
