The Clow Cards

CCS Main

A magician named Clow Reed created Clow Cards, and sealed them in a book called The Clow. These Cards have magic of their own, and if activated without a master, may create havoc...to the extent of world destruction.

The Clow Book calls Sakura and opens by itself. Sakura sees the top card, and, her (and anybody else's) first impulse is to read the inscription... "Windy". A whirlwind develops under Sakura's feet, and the cards are blown out of the book, scattered throughout Tomoeda.

Being partially responsible for the Cards' release, Sakura is appointed by Cerberus, the Guardian Beast of the Seal, to catch the cards. And, as we later learn, as the Cards Mistress, she has to use her own magic...to make these Clow Cards, and the Clow Book trully hers: The Sakura Cards in The Sakura.

The Clow Book appears in episode 1. It turns into The Sakura in episode 47.

I arranged the Clow Cards according to their numbers, the way they were actually arranged in the Clow Book. The descriptions I wrote indicates the Cards' power, episode number and sometimes the stiuation when they were caught and transformed , whether Li-kun or Syaoran actually gets them, and HOW they were caught (for some)...Here's an alphabetical index.

Arrow| Big| Bubbles| Change| Cloud| Create| Dark| Dash| Dream| Earthy| Erase| Fight| Firey| Float| Flower| Fly| Freeze| Glow| Hope Illusion| Jump| Libra| Light| Little| Lock| Loop| Maze| Mirror| Move| Power| Rain| Return| Snow| Sakura's Card| Sand| Silent| Shadow| Shield| Shot| Sleep| Song| Storm | Sweet| Sword| Time| Through| Thunder| Twin| Voice| Void| Watery| Wave| Windy| Wood|

The Windy - This is the first card Sakura used, being on top of the pile (episode 1). Sakura didn't really capture her, but let's consider her to be the first one captured, anyway. She was changed to a Sakura Card in episode 53.

Her power is to summon Wind. As an elemental card, it can also be used to bind other cards if they are weaker. The Windy is very nice gentle, so she is rarely used to catch other rather rough cards (such as watery). She is one of the most-used cards, along with jump and fly.

The Shadow - Shadow was captured in episode 2, the third card for Sakura. Its power is to capture shadows and give them the ability to manipulate physical objects. It was used to capture Silent and Mist. I don't know how, but in episode 59, it was used to find Tomoyo in the school*shrug* It was changed to a Sakura card in that episode.
The Illusion - Sakura first encounters Illusion in Episode 6, her eighth Clow Card to capture. Its power is showing people and image of that which they most wish to see, or of what its user wishes the person to see. For example, it made Sakura see her mom, and Sakura later uses it to make people in "The Milky Way" (it's a gallery, OK...not the galaxy) see...something else (it's hard to describe it!!!) in episode 66. Sakura changes it to a Sakura card in that episode.
The Flower - Flower...She appears in episode 10, nearly drowning everyone in Tomoeda Shougakkou in petals. Her power is to create and/or cause to rain down different types of flowers. In the exact words of Sakura: "That's all???" Yes, that's all...but believe it or not, she DID get to use her twelfth captured card! In the same episode as she was captured (ep10), Sakura uses her to make wisteria flowers appear, and in episode 54, Sakura changes her to a Sakura card to make wisteria for her greatgrandfather.
The Mist - *shiver* The Mist is VERY powerful. Her power is to corrode everything her mist touches... GAH! When uncontrolled, her mist can even prove fatal! Touya and his classmate (I forgot her name!!!) were in grave danger because of her in episode 14. Good thing Sakura captured her. This is the 15th card she captured. Mist was changed to a Sakura Card in episode 61.
The Storm - the Storm power is...to create a storm...He was captured by Syaoran (this time he did MOST the work to capture him, Sakura was able to do practically nothing, except to seal him) in episode 15, and becomes Li-kun's second card. Sakura changed him into a Sakura card in episode 69.
The Float - This is the 16th card Sakura captures. Its power is obviously to make things float. Kero-chan finds it in epsiode 15, and Sakura (of course) captures it in the same episode. It doesn't seem that necessary considering Sakura already has Fly and Jump, but she got to use it in episode 10, 36 and 57. Sakura changed it into a Sakura card in ep 57.
The Fight - The 20th Clow Card for Sakura. She is a great fighter, and her hobby is testing (and showing) her skills. She looks for the strongest fighter around and fights him/her. Sakura defeats her by using the Power Card in epside 20. She changed it into a Sakura Card in episode 69.
The Song - She is a very gentle Clow Card who just loves to sing. She copies the most beautiful voice, and sings using it. Sakura captures her in episode 23, her 23rd Clow Card. She changes her to a Sakura card in episode 49.
The Shot - is one dangerous card. He will, no matter what it takes, shoot what his possessor wants to. So, when Meiling said she wants to "hit Syaoran's heart" in episode 28, it tries to go on and do just that. Sakura figures out that she can use The Mirror to make Shot shoot himself^^ He is the 27th Clow Card Sakura captures, and she changes him into a Sakura card in episode 69.
The Sweet - She changes everything she touches into something sweet...and edible, of course. Sakura and Syaoran catch her in episode 29, and becomes Sakura's 28th Clow Card. She changes her to a Sakura card in episode 53.
The Freeze - Sakura and Syaoran caught The Freeze at the ice rink in episode 33. This is Syaoran's fifth Clow Card. Its power is to freeze anything, and it's changed into a Sakura Card in episode 60.
The Arrow - The Arrow is the card caught in the opening sequence of the first CCS movie. Sakura catches this card, with the help of Syaoran. It isn't mentioned in the series, though. I'm guessing that when Sakura uses it, she'll be a good archer (I'm thinking it's like a combintaion of Shot and Sword...for an arrow:) This is Sakura's 33rd Card.
The Light - One of the most powerful Clow Cards, along with Dark, Light is Sakura's 38th Clow Card. They have to be caught and transformed at the same time... Sakura transformed her into a Sakura card in episode 69, being the key in breaking Eriol's spell.
The Twin - Their power is to duplicate things...and not just things, even people. They are Syaoran's eighth Clow Card. Syaoran and Meiling beat the twins in episode 43, and Sakura seals it for them. It wasn't shown when Sakura changed it into a Sakura card, though I think it was in episode 61.
The Wood - One of the elements, Wood is also very powerful. Sakura sees her in her house in episode 4 and captures her. She is the one Sakura used to catch Earthy, the last Clow Card. She was changed to a Sakura card in episode 67.
The Shield - Its power is to form a not-quite impenetrable shield around an object. It's a very handy Card, and it is used pretty frequently, since it can even block off magic. Its strength depends on the importance of what it is protecting to the user. It is Sakura's 13th Clow Card, caught in episode 11. It is changed into a Sakura Card in episode 58.
The Power - Sakura's 14th Clow Card, it can increase her power. I think it has more to do with physical strength than magical, or else Sakura would've used it in more situations. Sakura caught her in episode 13, and changed it into a Sakura Card in episode 52.
The Loop - It makes you walk or run round in circles...a never-ending loop. Sakura caught this card in episode 21, becoming her 21st Clow Card, and changes it into a Sakura card in episode 53.
The Mirror - One of Sakura's most used Clow Cards, Mirror can take form of anything the user wants her to, taken that that is in front of her^_^ Sakura uses this card to fool Touya (though it never worked on him anyway) and Fujitaka (and everybody else) when she has to go capturing cards, and she can't just disappear. She is Sakura's 25th Clow Card, appearing to make havoc in episode 25. She is changed to a Sakura Card in episode 61.
The Big - makes things VERY big. I think this is the solution for Sakura's problem with Touya^^ She is Sakura's 29th Clow Card, caught in episode 31, changed to a Sakura Card in episode 55.
The Change - Hehe...this card has the ability to change objects, such as swapping souls. It is captured in the VERY funny episode 32, and becomes Sakura's 31st Clow Card. She changes it into a Sakura card in episode 53.
The Firey - One of the elemental cards, Firey is a strong one. Kero-chan needs this, along with the other elementals, to return to his true form.

Obviously enough, she can produce fire. She was caught in episode 35, becoming Sakura's 32nd Card. she attacked in the amusement park, setting wires, wreths and such on fire (on Christmas, no less!). It's cool the way Sakura caught the card! Syaoran uses Time to stop time, while Sakura uses Sleep on the people around. And then she proceeds to use Watery and Windy. Syaoran was SOOOO worried: using 2 elementals requires lots of Sakura's energy. WAI!!! *ahem* She was the first to be a Sakura card, changed in episode 48.

The Voice - Similar to The Song card, she looks for the most beautiful voice around...except she doesn't just copy it, she TAKES it. (Tomoyo becomes her target, making Sakura worry a whole lot, and that worries Syaoran a whole lot:) The Voice is Sakura's 35th Clow Card, captured in episode 37, changed to a Sakura Card in episode 53.
The Lock - It's a lock...that's it...I don't think Sakura used it again...but, anyway, it is Sakura's 36th Clow card, caught it in episode 38. It was changed to a Sakura Card in episode 53.
The Cloud - looks like The Rain. Sakura even thought that she WAS The Rain. Sakura, with the help of Syaoran and Meiling (she was sick then), sealed her. She was for Syaoran (as I said, Sakura was sick. She just sealed it), though he gave it to Sakura (awww...) saying it's just temporary, HE'll have the cards anyway (Riiiight...) This is Sakura's 37th Clow Card, and she turns her into a Sakura card in episode 69.
The Dark - One of the most powerful cards, tying with Light. They're even caught at the same time! In episode 42, she becomes Sakura's 39th Card. Sakura had a hard time transforming her and Dark into a Sakura card in episode 69, since they both require a large amount of energy, PLUS they have to be changed together. But, Sakura gets to change her, with Syaoran's help (HANYAAAN!)
The Watery - One of the elements, Sakura caught her at the aquarium in episode 3. She is Sakura's 4th Clow Card, and she changes her into a Sakura card inside a waterslide in episode 63.
The Rain - Sakura's 5th Clow card caught. She saw her and Wood in the basement, but she forgot to write her names on them (too bad), so she had to go through all the trouble of capturing them. This was in episode 3. Sakura chenges her intoa a Sakura card in episode 69.
The Jump - This guy...looks weird...it actually looks like a stuffed animal, even moreso than Kero-chan! (Kero: THANK YOU!!!) When Sakura uses it, little wings appear on her heels (sorta like Hermes/Mercury), and she can jump REALLY high (almost as if she was flying). Sakura caught it in episode 5, and changed it into a Sakura Card in episode 51.
The Silent - caught in episode 7, she is Sakura's 9th Clow Card. Her power is to take away sound and to move things which cause sound away from it. Sakura had a hard time catching this card (they're teleported elsewhere at each sound they make), but she got to do it eventually, using Shadow. She changes her into a Sakura Card in episode 69.
The Time - This card is sealed by Sakura in episode 12, but Syaoran was the one who (somewhat) deservingly got it. This is Li-kun's first Clow Card.

His true form looks like that of Father Time. He is a VERY powerful card, requiring a HUGE amount of energy to use. It requires so much that Syaoran (and later Sakura) collapses at every use. So that must mean that changing it into a Sakura card requires even MORE energy! Remember that when Sakura transforms cards, she collapses! Anyway, she turns him into a Sakura card in episode 64.

The Erase - Its power is to erase things or memory, temporarily or permanently, depending on the wishes of the user. He is caught in episode 17, becoming Sakura's 17th Clow Card. I think that that episode was the first to show REAL signs of the S+S pairing:) Sakura changes him into a Sakura Card in episode 52.
The Sleep - She makes people sleep. Sakura caught her in episode 22, becoming her 22nd card. Sleep is a very handy Card, especially when card capturing is called for in public. She was changed to a Sakura card in epside 56.
The Return - Ah, yes, the female version of Time. She was caught in episode 27, becoming Syaoran's third Clow Card. He had used Time to stop...time (like, duh) and to...save Sakura!!! WAI!!! Syaoran-kun starts to blush BIG TIME! (Man, I LOVE what these Clow Cards do for our couple). Sakura changes her in episode 68 to talk to Clow Reed. This made Syaoran worry VERY MUCH since he can't come with her. Return, like time, needs LOTS of energy...and it can only transport only one person (I think).
The Dash - Its power is to make things or people run FAST...OK...if you're wondering about things running fast, here's an example: it "possesses" Touya's bike and made it move on its own.

Its true form looks like...something you would keep for a pet... something like a cat. Sakura seals it in episode 30, but Syaoran was the one who actually caught it. Sakura changes it into a Sakura card in episode 53.

The Create - The Create is Sakura's 30th card, caught in episode 31. This is a funny episode, Sakura uses Big to defeat Create^_^ Anyways, as its name implies, Create can be used to...create! In ep 31, it takes the form of a book, in which Naoko wrote on, putting whatever she wrote to life. Sakura possibly changed this card in episode 61.
The Bubbles - Bubbles! Clow Reed seems to have made this card especially for Cerberus! :) True, I mean, Kero in his true form IS hard to wash, ne?

It wasn't shown in the series when exactly Bubbles was caught, but Sakura changes it in episode 58.

The Wave - It wasn't shown when Sakura caught wave. I don't remember seeing her use it, either. Correct me if I'm wrong here. But she changed it into a Sakura Card in episode 53.

I'm guessing that its power is...to make (or stop?) waves...

The Sand - This card gives the user power over sand. Sakura and Syaoran, making equal amounts of input, caught this card in episode 41. This Clow Card, by the way, chooses the worst time to attack! Hehe...Too bad for you, Li-kun, better luck next time.

Anyways, since, as I've said before, Sakura and Syaoran worked equally hard for her, she goes to both of them. But Sakura gives her to Syaoran, repaying his deed regarding The Cloud. She makes Syaoran's 7th Clow Card. Sakura changes her to a Sakura Card in episode 53.

The Fly - Ah, yes, one of Sakura's most used cards! That is, if it's not THE most used overall. Well, it is the most useful...for chasing cards (or anything else, for that matter) or running away^_^

The Fly is Sakura's second card...but the first card to catch! This was in episode 1. Sakura changes it to a Sakura card in episode 51...taking a totally new form! Man, it's SO cool when it goes on Sakura's back^_^

The Thunder - Wai! The first card Sakura and Syaoran worked together for! This was in episode 8, the same episode Li-kun makes his appearance (though he WAS shown at the end of ep 7) This is Sakura's 10th Clow Card. She changes it to a Sakura Card in episode 67.
The Sword - This card took from of a brooch and sttled itself in the Twin Bells store... so when Rika-chan put the brooch on, The Sword got into action! This card makes the user a fencing expert. And aside from that, it can turn the Clow Wand into a sword itself. This was sealed in Episode 9, making Sakura's 11th Clow Card. It was turned into a Sakura card in episode 50.
The Glow - Sakura's 18th Clow Card, the Glow is very...nice^_^ From what I've seen, I think she is Sakura's easiest catch yet: It made no attack whatsoever. OK, you'll think "how the heck will she attack, anyway? Make people glow?" Well, I dunno. Take The Flower: her "attack" can be dangerous, y'know...people drowning in flowers^_^

Anyways, Glow's power is to make things (or, yeah, maybe even people) glow. This creates a romantic and peaceful mood. (oh yeah, it has to be used in the night or in dark places) Like in episode 18 ---this is when she was sealed--- Sakura was able to spend time with Yukito-san because of this card. And in episode 67 ---this was when Sakura makes her a Sakura card--- it made Syaoran think more about his feelings...not that he ever stopped, anyway.

The Move - Caught in Episode 19, The Move is Sakura's 19th Clow Card (there are KAWAII S+S scenes here!!!) Its power is to move things. However, it can't move long distances, large things, or living things. Kero says it's not a very useful card...And, I guess he's right because Sakura wasn't shown using it... maybe she will when she's cleaning in the house...
The Little - Her power is to shrink things. Using her twice will return the shrunken object to its normal size. I think she is Kero-chan's fave Card...since he could use her to shrink himself to eat something apparently small, and still be full! Just watch episode 24. This was when Sakura went through A LOT to catch her. Sakura changes her into a Sakura Card in episode 55.
The Maze - As implied by the name, it creates a giant maze. It can be a simple one with paths and stuff...or it could be one resembling the ind of M.C. Escher! you would NOT be happy to be in it, trust me. It's a pretty strong card (though not offensive). I mean, it's sensitive to the people in it (it grows vertically when Sakura tried flying), and even Syaoran and Sakura's swords couldn't penetrate through it.

This is Sakura's 26th Card, sealed in episode 26. But, the person who should've owned it was...Mizuki Kaho! But she gave it to Sakura, anyway^^ Sakura changed this card in episode 66.

The Snow - Its power is to make it snow...And it attacks Tomoeda with exactly that...and LOTS of it. Sakura and Syaoran worked HARD for this (even making Sakura lose her precious watch from Yukito-san) in episode 36. Wai! Another S+S ep!!! VERY cute. You can see Li-kun's jealousy of Yukito, his concern and compassion for Sakura-chan!
Li-kun: I'll help you look for it...
Sakura: *sniff* You will? *sniff* Thank you, Li-kun...You're so wonderful! *beams*
Li-kun: *BLUSH!*

Wa~i! Too bad Mizuki-san found it. If she hadn't... Just think of the possibilities! *sigh* HANYAAA~N! *ahem* This is Sakura's 34th Card, she changes it into a Sakura Card in episode 68.

The Through - It wasn't shown in the series when Sakura caught Through. It wasn't shown when she changed it to a Sakura card, either. It's possible that it was in episode 61, or in some other unspecified time. I have no ID regarning its power, either. But it's probably making a hole or portal of some kind to let the user go through an obstacle.
The Libra - It's power is apparently to help the user distinguish whether someone is telling the truth. Gee. The scales of justice, huh? ^^ It wasn't shown when Sakura caught Libra. Sakura made it into a Sakura card in episode 53.
The Dream - The Dream lets the user have prophetic dreams. OK, I know Sakura HAS prophetic dream whether or not she uses her, but...I guess she can use her when she wants to, and not just wait for the dream to come... (am I making sense here?) This card also lets people have visions (as in when they're standing!) Check out episode 40, another GREAT S+S ep...a HUGE revelation for Syaoran about his *ahem* relationship with Sakura, and Sakura regaring the constant dream about the Tokyo Tower. This is Li-kun's 6th Card, and Sakura changes her to a Sakura Card in episode 62.
The Earthy - Wai! The last card of the pack, and the last card to be caught! Kero-chan needs Earthy, Firey, Windy and Watery to be able to transform into his true form. Because Earthy was the last to make itself appear, Kero-chan wasn't able to do that...too bad. This is Sakura's 52nd card (40th if you don't count the ones NOT shown in the series). She probably transformed it into a Sakura card in episode 61 or in some other unspecified time. And, oh yeah: her power is over the earth, meaning she can make mountains appear, and make the ground break.
Sakura's Card - OK...Just a note: This card wasn't given a name...If it was, it wasn't mentioned. If you have info on this, please tell me. Anyway, I'd like to call this the Love Card because of how it was created. See, Sakura was cryng over her feelings for Syaoran, and her tears fall on the floor. Her magical circle appears, and this card as well. Sakura created her first card! She looks at it, smiles and holds it close to her heart saying "I really DO love Syaoran-kun!" So that's why I call it that^_^
OHO!!! SPOILERS, OF THE 2ND MOVIE, MINNA-SAN!!!

The Void - Clow's 53rd card, The Void, is sealed sealed beneath his house. Unfortunately, it had been activated when the house was demolished...

All the Clow cards have a positive power to create something but this particular one has a power to negate everything. Clow created this troublesome card to stabilise enormous power of his positive card. Sorta like the principle of Yin-yan...but here's a far more important fact: the sealed card is as powerful as the other 52 cards put together!!! The balance between the two powers has been broken as all the positive cards became the Sakura cards. If Sakura can convert Void into a Sakura card, the balance will be restored and everything will return to normal. But to do so, one's most cherished feeling must be sacrificed. Whose? The one with the biggest magic power.

The Void's power is, as mentioned, to negate things, or to make things disappear: things, people...even feelings and memories. This is Sakura's 53rd Clow Card, and her 54th Sakura Card...But since it merged with Sakura's 53rd Sakura Card, I guess you can say it's the 53rd.

The Hope - When Sakura cried at the end of the movie, the Card she created in episode 70 activated (I guess her tears activated it....it WAS created by those:) and it merged with The Void. The merge resulted in this card: The Hope!

Its powers weren't given specifically...it's not that clear even after you watch, either. But I guess...it not only gives you hope, but I think it makes your wish comes true if you have it in your heart....or something like that.
