The first time Meiling appears in the series, the first thing she does is glomp Shaoran, to Sakura and Tomoyo's (AND Shaoran's) surprise. And, the next thing she does is GLARE at Sakura and Tomoyo, and then proceeds to throw the two out of Shaoran's apartment. Why? Well, mainly because she is Li-kun's cousin AND fiancee, but I think it's more on the fact that she's overprotective AND bossy. Don't get me wrong, I actually LIKE Meiling. Her being bossy was of help much later. Meiling has liked Syaoran ever since they were young. They both studied martial arts under the tutilage of Wei, and an incident one rainy day (I won't spoil it for you) displayed the caring and compassionate Li-kun beneath his serious eyes. And a while later, Meiling confesses her feelings for him, but unfortunately, he doesn't feel the same way. So, she makes (forces) him to promise that as long as he hasn't found the one he loves, he'll be engaged to her. But, Li-kun actually likes Meiling as well, but not the way she wants him to. To him, she's just a cousin who gets to his nerves lots of times, though he tries to put up with her. Meiling, at first, hated Sakura. She seems to be a rival in everything: sports, Clow Cards, even Li-kun! Her ruby red eyes seem to be watching Sakura's every move with a glare. But, just like everyone else, she is later "affected" by Sakura's friendliness. Her true self surfaces: and she'sactually very understanding, and open. She understands that Li-kun doesn't really want to marry her, but she tries to win him over, anyway. She tries HARD. She tries to learn how to cook (thus making havoc in their kitchen), and she tries to help Syaoran catch the cards, even if she doesn't have magical powers. As I said, she's very understanding. When she comes back to Japan from Hong Kong, she notices that Syaoran likes Sakura, and she, to everyone's surprise, accepts it. She even tells Shaoran to tell her (and quick) before she left (and in a letter she wrote). But, of course, it's not like she's a stone. Though she has a kick-butt attitude (which I absolutely adore, by the way), she's quite emotional, and it can't be avoided that she cried. Thank God Tomoyo's there to comfort her... But, by the time movie 2 rolls around, she's totally over it, and she even plots with Tomoyo to fix the two hopeless lovebirds together^_^ Though she didn't want to be it at first, Meiling is Sakura's friend. And, with the way things are going, they'll be friends for a LONG time... Notes about the name:
