Packing Ideas

My travels to the western half of Europe began on June12th, 1998 and ended July 2nd, 1998. I was told that it is really warm, even hot in most of Europe during these months. The information that I received was correct. Remember when you pack to consider all weather possibilities equally. Remember not to overpack, however. Bring only what is necessary. This suggested list is what I would have packed if I could do it again (This list was made for a 3 week travel period-adjust accordingly). For Malaysian, no visa required for all the country that I have visited, except Greece you must apply a visa.

Packing Ideas:

  • Two pairs of practical pants. (jeans, khakis)
  • A sweater
  • A long sleeved shirt
  • Two pairs of shorts
  • Several short sleeved shirts (about three)
  • One weeks supply underwear
  • Sport shoes (walking shoes)
  • One pair of other nicer shoes (sandals, dock shoes)
  • One nice outfit
  • Swimming Suit
  • Bras for women
  • A weeks supply of socks
  • Shower shoes or flip flops
  • A light jacket suitable for rain
  • A travel towel (Can be found at Outdoor equipment stores)
  • A hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Pajamas
  • Ear Plug - To stop noice on train
  • Sleeping bag is essential.

Toiletries:

  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste/Floss
  • Lotion
  • Soap

Additional Reminders:

  • You can always buy things overseas that you forget to pack.
  • Most people in Europe speak English if you need assistance finding things. Except France.
  • Bring some bisket, instant noodles and cans food (e.g. tona fish) - for one or two days supply.
  • Don't save the money for storing your heavy backpack. it cost around 1-2 pound per locker per bag. This will save lots of your valuable energy if you only plan for one day tour for that city instead of carry it and tour the city.
  • Most of the locker are available at the train station. To be kiasu, you may want to store it in Museum, or some market which provide bag keeping free of charge.
  • Don't worry about language most people in Europe can speak and write in english except France.
  • Pre-caution in Italy the pick pocket by small kids are very popular. You will notice the kids watching you when you take out your wallet or belt pocket. Stay way from them.
  • Do jogging, sports and exercise before your trip to build up your body staminal. This is the most important in the whole trip.
