CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Private Researcher, for hire, having access to volumes of information available on the CEF some of which is noted below:
  1. CEF Personal service files are available to researchers
  2. Circumstance of Death In many cases the documents will detail how and where a soldier actually died. Some unfortunately only state "Killed in Action" as the actual circumstances could not be determined. Wounded who were evacuated to Hospitals or England but later died are not listed in the Cir. of Death ledgers. Unfortunately the last few books containing these records are missing so records are only available from A through to SIMS. The balance of S's to Z are gone.
  3. War Graves RegistryThese list all those KIA or dying of wounds regardless of where death took place. It Records original place of temporary burial locations relocations, name of Cemetery and plot number. If remains not located or identified then where the person is commemorated.
  4. War Diaries Diaries were kept for every Fighting Battalion and Support Unit in the field. Some diaries are well written giving detailed accounts while others contain little information for the researcher.
  5. Militia Lists Canadian Militiary published monthly lists of units in the Canadian Militia from 1866 to 1945 listing officers in these units. As well it records retired Officers and their War Service, List of Reservice Officers and those Sr. Ranks who have passed exams to be eligible for Officer Candidates.
  6. Royal Flying Corps Documents exist on every CEF Officer " seconded" to the RFC. These do not include men who enlisted direct from Canada to the RFC or RNAS . Documents, in most cases, list all squadrons served in, aircraft trained on and qualified to fly and periods of service with RFC.
