My
name is Paul McCann
I was born in 1956 and grew up in a place called Ardoyne in Belfast .
Writing poetry came early on in my life.
My note books began to fill quickly .
In 1970 at my first job interview I was asked to write a composition .
This was my first serious attempt at writing a short story.
The employer was impressed with the story and invited me to spend a day at the factory.
The troubles had erupted in the streets of my hometown in 1968 and things where not looking good .
Hundreds of houses in the streets around us burnt to the ground.
Barricades where erected at the top and bottom of every street.
Gun battles and bomb blasts where now a daily activity.
My parents applied for emigration to Australia during my studies for O levels.
We were accepted by Australia and left Belfast in April 1972.
Driven on by homesickness I continued to write . With my poetry I
ventured into a new craft.
Song writing became my new love.
My note books had become large folders.
Over the years my folders have expanded into a large collection of verse, stories, and songs
I met my wife Mary in 1990 and we were married in 1992.
We have four young children now and I still love writing.
Welcome to my Celtic Place
