CATALOGUING ISSUES

Since these stamps were only available in certain denominations, they should be listed by denomination, just as the first CVP stamps are listed in Scott. The listings should be by machine--since these are also known--and there should be some indication of the set amounts in which these stamps were or are available. For example, for machine #5, the 34-cent stamps should be noted as available in two formats: four-stamp sheet and ten-stamp sheet. There should be some indication that the four-stamp sheet was available in sets of $1.36, $2.72, $4.08, $5.44 and $6.80, and that the ten-stamp sheet was available in sets of $6.80. In contrast, ten-stamp sheets were never available in any denomination at the Dallas or Warrenton machines--only four-stamp sheets were available. Since first days are listed on sheets, first day stamps should be listed, as well as first day covers where they are known. Numbers produced are also important, where known. For example, no other machine but the Hayward machine (#5), ever produced a $12.45 stamp, and only one was ever produced (no first day cover). Since that production figure is known, it should be listed.
