AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN CFCIE AND RENISON, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO TO PLACE STUDENTS FROM CFCIE'S SCIC OF CHINA TO CANADA


The Canadian Foundation Center for International Education (CFCIE Canada) has signed an agreement with Renison College, University of Waterloo to place students from CFCIE's Sino-Canadian International College (SCIC) programs in China in Renison College's English for Academic Success programs, beginning in January, 2003.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Samuel S. Rong, President & CEO of CFCIE and Dr. Gail Cuthbert Brandt, Principal and Vice Chancellor of Renison College, University of Waterloo on June 28, 2002. The Director of Renison's English Language Institute and Associate Dean, Professor Judi Jewinski, and the Chair of Renison's Board of Governors, Mr. Michael Carty, were also in attendance (see photo above)

According to the agreement, Renison College will accept qualified CFCIE students into its English language program, specifically designed for university students who seek to improve their academic writing and speaking skills. The program is designed to run for 8 months. During the period of study, students have the option of applying for admission into regular academic programs offered by Renison College and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo, on condition that they pass the specific program admission requirements including the TOEFL test.

Providing that they meet the admission criteria, students may select from a large number of undergraduate programs, leading to either a three-year or four-year University of Waterloo BA degree. More than twenty majors are offered through the College and the Faculty of Arts. Renison also offers a one-year post-BA Honours BSW program.

The University of Waterloo, established in 1957, has consistently been ranked in a national survey of universities as Canada's top university. Situated on a beautiful campus of over 500 hectares, it is famous for its high quality and innovative programs in computer science, engineering, environmental studies, co-operative education, and distance education. Renison College, an affiliated college of the University of Waterloo, was established in 1959, and is well known for its Social Development Studies, East Asian Studies, Social Work, and English for Academic Success programs. Its graduates are to be found in many professions, including social work, education, law, medicine, and counseling.
