The Realm Campaign

The Realm was designed to allow play from first level through twentieth, through any series of modules and original adventures a particular player may choose.  In a sense, this series of adventures, possibly related by theme but certainly linked through the PCs who play them, is a campaign.  This, though, is another sort of campaign.  This is an ongoing storyline.  There are some conversions of classic modules, some scenarios which take inspiration from classic modules, and a lot of original situations that did not come from modules at all.  Here, your PCs will face the same recurring villains even as they make their way through locales that will become hauntingly familiar.  This is the Realm Campaign!

Game R4: Olde Adventures

The adventure begins over two decades ago, in the first design I ever made for UA, now converted to a Realm design.  Largely a Vanilla game, this design sets the stage for everything to come.  Your heroes are first level, simple children of a farming village called Loralon.  Your wizard friend has just graduated from the nearby Academy; your cleric friend has earned the title of Acolyte.  Your rogue friend has passed all tests the local guild has for him, and the warriors are the pride of the local militia.  One goal has brought these youths together.  It is the day they have been waiting for.  Today, they set out into the Realms to seek adventure!

And adventure they will find.  Their feet are set on a path that leads inexorably to Realms-shaking events.  At first it is just a tavern tale heard by the hearth, but the rumors grow with increasing speed.  Soon, war is upon them, but this is not war against a human army…and it may not simply be war against a legion of humanoids.  By the time this is over, the youth of Loralon will have risen to the highest levels of power over the course of twenty-five long years.  Take a deep breath and take the plunge into Olde Adventures!

This adventure takes your group of first-level characters and elevates them to levels five and six.

Game R5: Eldritch Adventures

Evil runs rampant across the Forgotten Realms!  Your journey leads northward, past the Dales and into the Moonsea region.  There, you arrive at the city of Phlan, a place known for her many heroes and narrow escapes from cataclysm.  But will even your help be enough to save the city of Phlan from the dark masters of the brigand army?

But the city of Phlan is only half the adventure!  Darker threats await along the Moonsea, and by the time this adventure is over, you will have looked evil in the eye once again in order to crush the brigand army forever!

This adventure takes your group of intermediate-level characters and elevates them to levels twelve and thirteen.

Game R6: Arcane Trials

The Forgotten Realms were saved.  Four years passed by, and you settled into a well-earned retirement.  Renown has its privileges, and wherever you go, your deeds are known.  No place from the Moonsea to your home south of the Dragonmere is without a bard who knows your story.  But then word comes: Estimates of the power of the dark lord’s clerics were disturbingly inaccurate.  A new high patriarch has returned to the Realms, and he holds the power to sunder the bonds that keep your true enemy at bay!

You alone can make the trek northward.  Your previous endeavors have bound you spiritually to these events, and now only your heroism stands between the Realms and the renewed threat of the brigand army.  But this is a spiritual test; after all these battles, have you maintained the purity of character that will allow you to stand in the end against the darkest of entities?  By the end of this adventure, the brigand army will be crushed utterly, and this chapter of your careers is ended forever.

This adventure takes your group of high-level characters and elevates them to levels seventeen and eighteen.

Game R7: The Raven’s Return

Twenty years after Arcane Trials resulted in the end of the brigand army’s threat, the region south of the Dragonmere is an almost preternaturally peaceful location.  It has been nine years since the last report of goblinoid activity. Your children have grown up in this environment, and though they yearn to be like their parents they have had none of the experiences that made you who you were.  At the worst possible time, a vengeful enemy rises from his slumber.

You play your heroes’ children!  While your parents are at the Iron Crest Keep for an annual celebration, you are invited as the guests of honor to the Daufin village Festival of Qwaalsh!  During the festivities, though, a master thief of ninety years’ past, The Raven, poisons the village high priest, and it is up to you to get the antidote.  Before long, though, it is clear that you are not the only ones stirred to action because of the vile burglar’s awakening.

This adventure takes your group of first-level youths and elevates them to levels four and five.

Game R8: Legendary Descent

You were in the Iron Crest Keep when you heard the news: Your children are missing.  In the fifth installment of the campaign, your epic-level heroes rush home and begin a search that will once again span the entire Forgotten Realms, and that’s not the end!  What could possibly have taken your children to a place that even heroes of your stature cannot easily reach?  Worse, has your retirement brought about a fell karmic resonance throughout the Realms?

Suit up once again for the first time in two decades and ride out to find your children, and God help the monsters who have taken them!

This adventure takes your group of epic-level characters and elevate them beyond level twenty.
