| Jonathan Berger's Poetry: Poem of the Day |
| He said, Your biological father does not love you. That's why he's not around, he said, Why he misses so many weekends, why he doesn't call. It's why he seems so distant so often. Your biological father does not love you. He may pretend to. He may act the part of the dutiful father, a devoted father, the kind of father who cares about his flesh and blood. But perhaps he doubts you're really his. Perhaps he doubts your mother's protestations of former fidelity. Perhaps he doesn't trust you as much as he doesn't love you. But one thing is obvious, and one thing is clear, he said, Your biological father does not love you. I responded with, Third person doesn't become you, Dad. |
