You really should not miss the Alps in summer - the alpine meadows are covered in carpets and carpets wild flowers, often brightly coloured because of the greater need to attract bees which are rarer at higher altitudes.
I have favourite spots for different months, according
to exposure and altitude, which I shall enjoy showing you.
In the summer all the mountain refuges are open,
providing clean beds in dormitories, hot showers,
good food and of course wine! They vary from modern
hotel-like buildings to an old one I know which is
built under an overhanging rock, the back wall of
which is the rock itself.
They enable us to make treks of two or more days. It is the least painful and most efficient way of getting fit I know. For shorter walks of a half day or more we can use telepheriques, many of which give access to beautiful meadows and mountain cafés.
