Red knows that his hope is foolish. There were no survivors after Cerise, and so, he should not be expecting anything. But he does hope, and as he stands upon the lip of the volcano and glances down into the bubbling lava, he holds the fragile egg in his hands.
Its a hard decision, but it has to be done. He takes a deep breath, and drops the egg in. Thee flames close up over it, swallowing it whole.
He waits.
Soon, he hears humming, almost a voice, like a song, in snatches of a language he barely remembers, and soon, Lance appears, lava dripping from his silversteel wings, eyes closed and hands clasped against his chest.
Lance opens his eyes, and Red winces. His eyes are pure, bloody red, but that seems to be the only change. Lance lands next to him, and kisses him, and Red gasps, feeling heat sear him in its passionate embrace.
He knows that something is wrong, but he brought Lance back, and Lance is blazing fire, as bright as his eyes, and it should burn him to ashes, but it doesnt, and he wants nothing more than to drown in that warmth forever.
Lance speaks no words, simply holds him, and Red lets his tears fall, glad that it worked. Hes not a mage, and he knows no magic save for his trust in his pokémon, but he had to try something, and now Lance is back with him.
And everyone is happy again.
