Red smiled at his Father as they sat across each other from the table. Candles glittered in tall brass holders, casting faint shadows over their faces. The delicious aroma rose from the table, the glistening brown turkey, the cut-glass dish of cranberry jelly, the greens and the corn, and a plate of fluffy biscuits.
Would you like to start? Lance asked.
Red smiled. Im thankful for you, Father. That is all.
Oh? And what about your pokémon?
Red considered. All right. Them too. And the Elite Four, because theyre nice, and the Gym Leaders, because theyre cool, and for Nurse Joy, because she heals my pokémon but I think thats all.
Lance smiled. I see. Im thankful that youre safe and healthy, and youve surpassed my expectations youve become Champion!
Im glad I made you proud.
Im more than proud. Im overjoyed. Lance said.
He considered for a moment. I am thankful that Team Rocket has become a decreased threat and that all my pokémon are healthy and safe, and that you have made friends with the Elite Four and Gym leaders, and that none of the fangirls made it past our pit of crocodiles
Red giggled.
And Im glad I have you of course.
Red nodded, and they ate dinner together, and afterwards, they sat by the fireplace and snuggled in a quilt as Red kissed his Father, feeling Fathers hands move over his body.
He was very thankful, this year.
