Ash isnt happy when he finds out he cant leave the Orange Islands after he beats Drake. Even though hes Champion he wants to keep exploring. Drake shakes his head, and tells Ash hes sorry, but thats the way things are.
Didnt Ash ever wonder, why the Elite Four in every region never leave, and why the Champions stay put?
Ash hadnt, of course. He was too busy doing other things that were more important, like foiling Team Rockets latest plots and capturing pokmon!
Misty and Brock tell him goodbye, and head back to their gyms.
He feels very lonely.
Two weeks later, Lance, Charlotte, Steven, and three others show up. Theyre the other Champions from the various regions. They offer congratulations and sympathy, because now Ash is as chained as they are.
Hes the youngest Champion ever. It must be difficult.
It is!
Lance shakes his head and gives him a sympathetic smile, and Charlotte tells him that mail order is a wonderful thing. Steven gives him a rock, and while Ash appreciates the gesture, hes not too sure why Steven thought a rock would be a good present. Barnes hands over a list of notes, and the other two dont say or do much so he doesnt remember their names.
Its the first time he notices exactly how pretty Lance is, with long crimson hair and golden eyes.
Its funny, because he never thought hed be interested in boys. He ignores the feelings, and waves goodbye as the other Champions leave.
The next time he notices, hes whimpering beneath Lance as the Dragon Master kisses him, and he faintly remembers how everything began.
