Red watches when Lance battles partially because any fool who tries to defeat the Dragon Master might defeat him, and he needs to know about their battling style and which pokmon they use. But if Red is honest, hell admit that he likes watching because he likes watching Lance.
Hes Champion, and hes the most powerful trainer in the Indigo League, but Lance is brilliant. Hes not even sure how he won, hes sure it was a fluke, or maybe if he hadnt had Articuno and even then the dragons put up a fight. He almost lost, but he was lucky Blizzard froze Dragonite solid before it could unleash Hyper Beam.
But now hes Champion, and no one objects. He spends a lot of time staring at Lance, and wishing, and wondering, because he thinks hes falling in love, and someday, hell have to tell Lance about his feelings.
When that day comes, he might wind up broken, so hes not ready yet.
But each day, his confidence will grow a little bit more, and maybe soon, he can face Lance and say what needs to be said.
Until then, he watches as the challengers Golem crumples, and the smirk on the Dragon Masters face makes him shivery inside.
