When Ash’s Mother wins the lottery, it’s strange. He’s not quite sure what to do with so much money. After all, he’s used to living in Pokemon Centers for free and camping out most of the time.

Delia, on the other hand, knows exactly what to do, even as she transfers two million into Ash’s bank account for him to spend as he wishes, preferably on a girlfriend. She heads to the League and demands to see Lance.

The Dragon Master nods when she puts her wish before him, and promises results, even as he slips blades into the sleeves of his jumpsuit and takes off on Dragonite. Two days later, Cypress Ketchum is dead.

Misty changes a lot after Ash gets rich. He’s not sure why, but even though he pays her bike back and takes her shopping twice; she’ll still cling to him and whine.

            It’s starting to get annoying.

Lance laughs when Ash asks him what’s going on.

“It’s simple,” The Dragon Master says, leaning across the table. “She wants you to fall in love with her.”

            Ash blinks. Love?

The concept is very foreign. Sure, he loves Pikachu and his pokémon, but he’s never thought of Misty as more than a friend – an annoying friend, to boot!

When he says that out loud, Lance shakes his head.

“You’ll never get a girl that way, Ash.”

“Lance? Do you have a girlfriend?”

“No, and I don’t want one.”

“Oh.” Ash blinks at this, since Lance is older than he is.

Misty’s demands become intolerable, so he tells her that if all she wants is his money, they shouldn’t be friends anymore.

She slaps him and then… does things, and when he returns to the Plateau that night, he’s shaking so bad he almost falls off Pidgeot’s back.

Lance finds him, since he’s returning from a Conference in the Whirl Islands. Ash is bleeding from a cut on his lip, and he has a black eye, but he doubts that’s the worse of the Champion’s injuries.

            Oh dear.

Ash doesn’t tell Lance what happens, but Lance knows without speaking, that Misty has done the unforgivable. He drugs Ash with laudanum, and as he sleeps, pays a visit to the Cerulean Gym, leaving naught but death in his wake.

When Ash wakes up, he feels groggy. He watches the news detachedly; unaware of what has happened.

It is a pity, because not until four days later are the corpses found, and by then, even the prettiest Waterflowers are not worth looking at.

Lance holds Ash close, and soothes him, and Ash is too stunned to protest, not even when Lance’s hand slips into his jeans and begins to fondle him. He leans into the touch and tries not to think.

            It’s safer this way.

There is more than one type of greed, Lance thinks, and it is a pity Ash doesn’t know about this.

Ash’s mother can’t comfort him, because she doesn’t know, and Ash clings to the Dragon Master, because he is terrified… what if Lance tells the truth?

Lance won’t, but that doesn’t mean he won’t use the circumstances to his advantage either.

So Ash lets Lance pet him, and do anything he wishes, as long as Lance doesn’t tell anyone the truth. It’s a foolish promise, but he’s babbling while the tears run down his cheeks and Lance licks his tears away with a pleased expression.

Now, the boy is all his.

End Fic

Completed 10/14/06

Ahh, Wikipedia is my friend! Information one would normally need encyclopedias to reference at my fingertips! Woohoo!

Damn, it’s hard to write Ash after writing Red… Red is so much more mature and cool. Yeah, Lance is blackmailing Ash, but Ash kind of walked straight into it. The fic seems pretty disjointed…. Eh, must be my antidepressant meds…

Damn, Lance is a bastard! ^^ But what can I say? I still like him.
