Amuro Rei: The hero of the series (yea!!!!!) and the pilot of the RX-78 Gundam. Amuro is very antisocial and prefers Machines over people. His parents divorced when he was a child, and Amuro moved with his father Tem Ray to Side 7. There he pilots the Gundam for the first time and join the White Base crew. Over time Amuro changes and matures.

Lalah Sun: Lalah is under the newtype research program. She was bought to the program by ace pilot Char Aznable, whom she feels saved her life earlier in the war. Under Char's command she becomes a fierce fighter and battle with Amuro Rei.

Sayla Mass: Salya is a medical student living at Side 7, but later becomes White Base's communications officer, then becomes a pilot (busy girl, ne?). Salya is also the sister of Char Aznable and is offen told to leave the Federation.
