{2001}

This was the first year that Charlton County Volunteer Fire Department Station One joined in on
the Burns for Boots Campain. This fundraiser is held once a year to raise money to aid the burn
children of Georgia. The funds that are raised are used to send burn children to camp and to
help the parents with medical cost. This year we raised $1,146.00. Next year we will double
that amount! For more information, check out their website!

BURNS FOR BOOTS
Around the month of September and October, the members of Station One go out and sell tickets
to help raise money for our Toys for Tots Christmas program. Each year we ask the different
stores of Folkston to donate a item and we then raffle them off. With the money that we raise we
go christmas shopping and purchase "NEW" items for a list of children. This year we were able
to raise a total of $3,267.00. Its all ways such a wonderful time when "Santa" arrives on Engine
12 to deliver their Christmas Gifts! Each year at the Okefenokee Festival we set up a booth to
sell hamburgers and hotdogs as well. We also while there, teach the citizens esp the children
about fire prevention and what to do in case of a emergency!
We are all ways looking for ways to give back to the community, esp to the children. Each year
we turn the Bay into a Haunted House. We pull the trucks out and inside we build walls from
black plastic to make different rooms. Each room will have a theme, such as this year the first
room was the cemetery, next the Mummys toomb and so forth. The firefighters then get dressed
into different costumes and have a blast! Its nothing like it in the world watching parents and
children coming out laughing or crying!
Family Photos is another one of our big fundraisers we have. A company comes into Folkston
and Homeland and sells tickets to have your family picutres taken. For three days firefighters are
at the station helping the photographer while different families are smiling and laughing! This
fundraiser is a good thing, it helps both the firefighters and the citizens of Folkston and Homeland.
First, it gives us the funds that are needed to purchase different equipment, such as our Station
computer system and programs, fire hoses, tools and other such items. Second it helps the citizens
to see what all we do to help them. Fire hats are given out to the small children along with a
goodie bag full of fire prevention items in there!
