One
{2001}
Mod One class was held at Station One from March
thru August. This class was held two nights
a week with a total of 10 firefighters. The State test
was taken on the 11th of August at Waycross GA. Forestry
Unit.
Firefighters who attended and became State Certified are:
Gary Tippins, Keith Tippins, Dixie Kirton, Donna
Phillips, Scott Heglund, Tonya Fertig, Lanier Phillips,
Wesley Williams and Matthew Shouse.
{2002} Mod One Class this year is being
held at Winoker Division. The state exam will be held
again at the Waycross GA. Forestry Unit on May 11.

Fire Academy
{2001}
Two firefighters from Station One went to Forsyth for a
week long course at the fire academy August 5 thru the
11. Both of them were taking the Mod One course. They
were Firefighters Austin Kirton and Daniel Collins.{Both
passed!}
{2002}
Four of our members will be going to the Fire
Academy this year with high hopes. Firefighter Victor L.
Kirton and David Batten will be taking Mod One, in April
of this year.
Both went and they received their Mod One certificates
April 09, 2002.
Firefighters Austin G. Kirton and Daniel Collins went to
the Academy in February and passed their Mod Two.
Firefighter Austin Kirton will be attending the Academy
March 18-22 and will be taking the Mod Three and will
become a NPQ firefighter as well. They two passed the
State Test! We are more then proud of all of them listed
above.
Firefighter Arnold Lee Drury went attended the Fire
Academy and became Mod Two State Certified as well in
April of 2002!
Bus
Extracation
Bus
Extracation class held July 29, 2001 in Jesup Co., GA.
This course ofered by GEMA, was to teach firefighters how
to extract victims from a school bus accident. The class
was taken by the following firefighters:

Phillips, Lee Drury, Austin Kirton, Daniel Collins, C.L.
Lewis, Gary Tippins, Keith Tippins, Chief Willard Turner.
CPR
& AED
CPR and
AED class was held at Station One for the firefighters of
all the stations. This class was taught by Chief Kirton
and Assist. Chief Scott Heglund. Firefighters who passed
the class were:

Austin Kirton, Victor Kirton, Lt. Lanier Phillips, Donna
Phillips, Travis Wisler, Jason Ackerman, David Batten,
Kara Lynn Lewis, Wesley Williams and William Duke.
State
Incident Reporting
Incident reporting will
be held at Station One, April 27 & 28 of 2002. Class
be given by the State, and taught by Nancy Blair. This is
a important class as it will help keep the stations up
todate on the State rules of writing a incident report.
All reports are sent to the State by a computer program.
These are placed into the system by Sec. Dixie Kirton for
all the different divisions.
Monday
Night
Each
Monday night beginning Janunary 7th, Station One will be
holding a "Hands On" training class. All the
different divisons from Charlton County are welcome to
attend.
Monday night, Janunary 14, Engine 12,
Tanker 11 and Rescue 1 were taken to our local Landing
Zone for Trauma One and the new firefighters and older
members trained on the following: Hydrant hook-ups,
Engine 12 Pumping and Fire Attack lines.
The next Monday night, firefighters trained on Water
Supply. Which included pumping Tanker 11, water drop
tank.
Monday Night, March 11, firefighters
will be undergoing Search and Rescue. Firefighters will
be going though a maze which will be set up in the house
of Station One. A fog machine which was purchased from
fund raisers will be use to give the effect of a smoke
filled room. Firefighters will be dressed in full gear
{includes scba} and will be sent in to search for the
"victims".
Monday Night, April 15, 2002, Firefighters
learned the different aspects on the use of a ladder. The
ladder was placed on the outside of the department and
the firefigthers learned the right way of climbing up and
down. Carrying fire hose, and each other.
CSX
DERAILMENT CLASS
The following firefighters will be
going to Savannah Georgia and will be attending the CSX
class held on June 12-14. This class will cover what to
do in case of a emergency of de-railment, Hazard spills
and vehicle vs train. Charlton County has over 60 CSX
trains pass through the middle of town each day and any
where from 8 to 10 Amtrax passenger trains. This class
will be help to further our training in this type of
