This common English verb has several meanings.
1.To stop and remain in a place.
- Would you like to STAY for dinner?
- I had to STAY late at work.
- Can you STAY a little longer?
2. To continue in a position or state.
- The passengers STAYED calm during the
emergency.
- My cat STAYS out all night.
- The children STAYED up late.
3. To live in a place for a while.
- We STAYED at a ryokan in Sendai.
- I'll STAY in Bankok for two days.
- Reiko is STAYING with a host family in
London.
