HOMEBAKE 98
Sydney, 5 December 1998

I arrived there with two
of my friends from Sydney some time soon after 11am (because somebody
forgot the tickets so we had to go back for them *LOL*). First we
went and had a quick look at The Feelers. They were really good.
Then we went and watched Eskimo Joe. They were really cool. We had
to go in and mosh to them, especially when they did the Sweater
song. Then I watched Something For Kate. They were pretty cool too.
I had a quick look at The Avalanches too. Then Frenzal Rhomb were
on the main stage. They went off! I was moshing to them. But it
wasn’t until Ammonia (after Frenzal), that I went up the front moshing
hard hehehe. After that I watched The Mavis’s. They were really
good! When they played ‘Naughty Boy’ I ran up the front and moshed
for a while. I did some crowd surfing here and at Ammonia. I started
really liking Mavis's after seeing them at Homebake. After the Mavis’s
I had a quick look at Bodyjar. Then I watched Custard for a bit
but I missed Screamfeeder. But they sounded good from where I was!
After Custard I went in early to get a good moshing spot up the
front for Jebediah. The Jeb’s totally went off and everybody was
moshing hard & I did some crowd-surfing there. I think I got thrown
over the mosh pit again here. Then Grinspoon were on and I kept
moshing. Then after that there was The Living End. They totally
rocked!! I was doing heaps of moshing to them - for over half an
hour non stop! During ‘Tainted Love’ (their second last song), I
was totally buggered, so I crowd surfed over the wall (with my shoe
in one hand), and smashed my knee into the edge of the wall after
I got thrown over so it started bleeding. I must have looked pretty
bad when I just collapsed after I got out of that, with one shoe
off, my knee dripping with blood, totally saturated in sweat, water,
and beer - but it was definately worth it! After a quick rest trying
to recover, I went and watched The Whitlams under the Big Top. They
were really really good but they weren’t really moshing music, but
they still rule! They had the electric guitar to jazz up their music
a bit. I had a quick look at TISM in their weird red costumes after
Whitlams. Then we got to see Pauline Pantsdown and see somebody
peg a bottle of water at her head! They played both her songs and
then I watched a little of Spiderbait before going home totally
buggered. I bought a homebake T-Shirt on the way out too. It was
a bargain 10 bucks! :) When I got home I went out and bought the
Homebake CD too. It's really good and has songs from most of the
bands that played there. And that's my day.
