BIG DAY OUT
Sydney, 23rd January 1999
by BUG
The transport to the BDO
was good and it wasn't far from the station. Upon arriving there
was a canon thingy going off. The bloody thing went off right when
we were underneath it. It was so loud I could hear it ringing in
my ear.
We started by walking
around to all the rooms/stages to find out where everything was.
We arrived for the end of jebediah and got in a good position for
the living end (right in the mosh) - only about 10 rows back and
it went off. I'm not a huge fan of tle but the vibe was great.
Staying around for the
beginning of soulfly was not as good a tle. We left after the first
song and headed for a little more wondering around. We kept going
back to the boiler room for some of the earlier acts. It was looking
like the boiler room would be the place to be later in the night.
The tents outside the boiler room were a great place to chill.
At the boiler room we
bopped to some deejay punk roc. The set up in the boiler room was
good. The roof was high enough not to trap in the heat and it was
big enough to hold a good-sized crowd.
Once again, back in the
main stage for a little moshing for the gurge. They played all
the favs like polyester girl, blubber boy and I sucked a lot of
cock to get where I am. It was getting quite hot and the rain that
came was very welcome. It stopped raining when their set was over
- perfect timing. The weather for the day was awesome.
After this mosh we had
another break and went for food. The food was a bit pricy, but
what can you expect. We checked out some of the stuff on at the
lilypad and what is music. Once again we sat outside the boiler
room observing how little clothes some of the females had on. Just
a note: there were too many bloody fairies!!
Having fully recovered,
we decided on getting in the mosh for korn. I know that's asking
for trouble, but you only live once. I was only 5 rows back and
was getting nailed. I got kicked in the face, the groin and in
the shins. When I finally got out, they started playing got the
life. I was cut that I missed the mosh for that. I met up with
friends up in the bar at the top of the stadium and from there you
could see how big the mosh was. It went past the scaffolding thing
in the middle of the stadium - it was massive.
We stayed there to get
a glimpse of marilyn manson, but couldn't hear a word. We left
before the first song was over. We had a look at the skate museum
and then went for food again. I had a dodgy kabab that would plague
me later in the night.
For the rest of the night
we were in the boiler room. Roni size was good but not my style
of music, but I stayed anyway. However, fat boy slim was f@#king
unreal. He was mixing up some of the best dance music I have heard.
Just watching fat boy slim and underworld was worth the $65. So
we danced for about three hours and got pretty dehydrated (but didn't
care). I was about two rows back for the whole of underworld's
set. There wasn't much room to dance but it went off. Words fail
me.
When we were leaving we
were glad the canon thing was turned off. The trains home were
pretty disorganised.
The things I liked most
about the bdo were the flooring they put in the main stadium and
the tents they set up so you could chill out. The speakers outside
the boiler room were a good idea when everyone couldn't fit in.
We met a few friends there and the whole day was ACE!
