Custard played the Hi-Fi bar in Melbourne as part of their Loverama tour on Saturday 14th Of August. Supported by DJ Dr. Love, who by the way is a complete tool, they played with great enthusiasm to a packed house. This was the third time I have seen Custard this year and they seemed refeshed by the addition of two musicians on stage with them. They brought out their big guns to start with, playing their two hit singles from Loverama, and two of their old classics in Apartment and Pack Yr Suitcases. Dave and Matthew's guitar work was brilliant throughout the set, and Dave was at his funnniest once again, referring to us as Melbourne Central Business District and doing his usual stage antics. A couple of very shonky songs were played (particularly When Doves Cry), but the highlight was the charm of the lastest songs, The New Matthew, Correctional Facility of Love and Ringo. Dave did his usual, OK kids, it your uncle Dave lecture during Ringo, trying to spark religious beliefs in us with chants of amen and hallelujah. A great encore with Nice Bird and Lucky Star, before a second encore of Dave's Ricky Martin story and Living La Vida Loca. It all added up to a very enjoyable 75 minute set, a must see!!
