Livid 99
Brisbane RNA Showgrounds, 2 October 1999
by J Freak
A miserable morning greeted
a group of four dedicated trekkers from our little town of Moranbah.
What a day this would be with the rain happening. Still, we braved
the weather (some of our party consuming a quick ale to increase
courage). First order of business - merchandise. Can't have beer
later on without the customary beer cooler. Second order of business
- beers.
We started the musical
appreciation with a visit to the Toothfaeries. These guys recently
did a trip around Queensland schools and they visited our little
place to play a set. After the Toothfaeries, we watied to see the
much talked about Gerling. We had heard their names bantered around
a lot and I must say I was fairly impressed with their talents.
They did well with the crowd by dragging four young groovers (2
male and 2 female - very politically correct of the young lads)
onto the stage to dance to their tunes.
Not from There followed.
A very pleasing set. I had only heard "Sich Offnen" from these guys.
The rest of their set was a similar sound but the crowd appreciated
the heavy beat. Now is where the real times start.
Frenzal Rhomb appeared,
albeit with a broken arm. They played their favourites after a slightly
less than humourous introduction by some dude in a suit. Powderfinger
followed, pleasing the quieter tastes present. And then my favourite,
SPIDERBAIT. These guys rocked!! An awesome set resulting Kram needing
to be dragged off stage at the completion.
A much needed dinner break
came when Suede took the stage. Didn't really like their stuff too
much so it was time to get ready for the big two.
GARBAGE - what a girl,
what a voice. Shirley brought out her popular hits and crowd pleasers.
Not suitable for moshing but a large dance floor developed. She
plugged Offspring, and I think that is really what the crowd was
waiting for.
OFFSPRING - what a group.
Thankfully, they played some of their heavier, more alternate stuff.
Of course Pretty Fly and Get a Job needed to be played but it was
only those poor fool, young folk who tried moshing to them. Bad
Habit was obviously the biggest crowd pleaser with much vocal input
by us.
All in all, a great day.
I recommend it to anyone.
