Spiderbait @ Livid

Brisbane RNA Showgrounds, 2 October 1999

It was the middle of the
day, it was stinking hot. We had travelled from our little haven
of Moranbah to the rock mecca of Brisbane. We were standing in a
crowd approximately 3 times the population of our town. A number
of beers had been consumed. We had purchased the necessary merchandise
and now we were ready to rock.
Spiderbait walk on stage,
we cheer and yell as we rush forward. And we wait for that first
beat of the drum from Kram. This is what I have come down here for.
I know the big internationals are coming up but good raw aussie
rock is my liking, and no one serves it up like Spiderbait.
With such a repertiore
of songs, it must have been hard to pick which ones to play. Monty
made a showing, as did Buy Me a Pony. Shazam and Dinnertime also
appeared. Calypso encouraged the standard singalong. The high was
amazing. These three put so much energy into their short time on
stage that you could see the sweat rolling from their brows. How
do they manage such fine music whilst living in three separate states?
And once again the award
for most popular song goes to Ol' Man Sam. Right from the word go
the crowd (well us slightly older ones) cheered and chanted for
the Ol' Man to amke an appearance. To go out on a high note, it
was the last song played. It must be a compliment to this band that
despite the charttopping success they continually achieve, the fans
still want to hear their beginnings.
As kram so eloquently
puts it -
"We're all here drinkin'
beer, drinkin' beer without a care"
Go Spiderbait, go!
