Write Or Wrong 9 Can’t We All Just Get Along? As the “War on Terrorism” continues and the conflict between Israel and Palestine rages on, people have kinda settled down in the post 9/11 world that we now inhabit. Even after the way the world united in the wake of one of the most horrific events in history, people have fallen back to the routine of apathy and infighting. Sure, there is the occasional scare of the much–dreaded “dirty bomb” or the capture of a notable terrorist to make us forget the petty stuff. But for the most part, people have devolved into a mindset that doesn’t bode well for the continued existence of the human race. And there is one event that cemented this belief for me. I work part-time as a deli clerk at a local supermarket and have gotten my fair share of nasty customers. Old ladies calling me “retarded,” guys arguing with me over our lack of good pastrami, and unsatisfied customers hurling cold-cuts at my head. And yet, these are only a small fraction of the shit that I have experienced. Just recently, while at work, I witnessed an event that really put into doubt my belief in humanity. As my manager served one customer, I cleaned the counter. The next thing I hear is the sound of two voices arguing. It seemed that one customer was harassing my manager. While this occurred, another customer came to my managers defense. Well, to keep a long story short, the little conflict ended with one person being spit on, the other being punched, and a state trooper showing up to handle the situation. And do you know what the cause of this little skirmish was? Olives! Less than one pound of olives! How stupid is that? People are perishing in explosions caused by suicide bombers, little girls are being abducted from their homes as they sleep, and entire buildings are destroyed by terrorists; yet people squabble over such petty shit as olives? This is just a really disturbing trend in society. One guy shooting another because he was cut off while driving. Brothers fighting over who gets the larger share of the inheritance. I mean, come on people, there are worse things in life. We have children starving to death and yet these types of situations continue. If everyone could just de-stress and look at the grand scheme of things, they’d realize that there are things that make their plights pale in comparison. But I don’t see a mass enlightenment occurring anytime soon so please just be on your best behaviour. Try and remember. Tolerance , patience, and open-mindedness can go a long way. So all of you, cut the crap. Because the world is full of too much negativity and, one by one, you could all change that. Inspirational, huh? Well, that’s me.
