Same panel layout as last two issues. Page 1 Panel 1: Jesse is standing in Heaven (the lobby of an office building) and he looks a little clueless. Jesse: Let me get this straight: I’m dead and this is Heaven? And you are . . .?
Panel 2: The Angel of Death stands in front of him. Death: Me? I’m the Angel of Death. And yes, you are dead and this is Heaven.
Panels 3-6: Security officers walk towards them. Death signals them. Death: Now, get the hell out, Anti-Christ. Title: Am I Evil? Part 3: The Big Picture
Page 2 Panel 1: The security guards grab Jesse on either side. Jesse: Whoa! Hey--wait a minute! What are you--?
Panel 2: As the guards carry Jesse, who is struggling, to the door, he turns back to Death, yelling. Jesse: What the fuck is this? Hey, fucker! What the fuck is going on? You can’t just do this!
Panel 3: They begin to go through the doors. Which, by the way, are revolving doors. Jesse: I’m the goddamn Anti-Christ! You can’t fucking do this!
Panel 4: Death holds up a hand, palm facing directly at them. Death: Wait.
Panel 5: The guards let Jesse go. He gives them a dirty look. Jesse: Yeah, you let me go, you dickhead, you.
Panel 6: Death walks up to him. Death: Hey, wanna watch the language? This is Heaven, you know. Jesse: Looks more like an office building to me. Death: What did you expect? Clouds?
Page 3 Panel 1: Jesse sort of shrugs. Jesse: Guess so.
Panel 2: And then he goes serious. Jesse: Now, what’s going on here?
Panel 3: Death walks towards some chairs and Jesse follows. Death: You messed things up, Anti-Christ. You could cost us some business.
Panel 4: Death sits and Jesse is about to. Death: Without you there is no Anti-Christ, therefore we lose believers. We sent you to cause some damage and mess with things.
Panel 5: Death gets really sarcastic. Jesse is sitting. Death: But you had to have a conscious and kill yourself to help people. Now we’re going to have to send down another one and not have one during the beginning of the new millennium. Thank you so very much.
Panel 6: Jesse tries to complete the picture. Jesse: I was sent by Heaven to fuck the world up plenty, so . . . what, Jesus could come again and save it?
Page 4 Panel 1: Death looks at him. Death: So you’re not a complete moron.
Panel 2: Death motions to the “lobby.” Death: I know what you’re thinking: what’s with the scenery? Why would Heaven want to cause people pain? Why me?
Panel 3: Death slouches a bit in his chair. Death: Well, a little history for you first. Back in the old days, Heaven and Hell were like people say they are. Clouds, fire, halos, horns, the whole lot. But what no one ever clued into was the fact that the afterlife evolves with Humanity. Back then we fought one another with armies. Now we’re like corporations.
Panel 4: Death continues. Death: We compete for souls. We get people to believe and they go to whichever place accordingly. Recently, Hell has caught up a lot.
Panel 5: Death turns to Jesse and sort of pushes him. Death: You were a big thing for us. The Anti-Christ would turn so many people. We could have gotten back a big piece of our former followers.
Panel 6: Death stands up. And motions for security. Death: And, why you? Had to be someone. Security.
Page 5 Panels 1 and 2: Jesse walks down a street. We see a sign that says “Purgatory Road.” There are no cars on the street. There are people of other faiths than Christian, Judaism and Islam living on the sidewalks. There are some businessmen (angels or demons) talking t some of them. Hindu Man: What . . . what is this place? Business Man: This is the afterlife. Hindu Man: Afterlife? But I was only Sudra. I couldn’t have gotten spiritual enlightenment yet.
Panel 3: Focus on the Hindu man and the business man. The Hindu is trying very hard to understand but just isn’t getting it. Business Man: This isn’t what you call Brahmin. Heaven and Hell is what you got. The Christian/Jewish/Muslim god. Now you have to decide: Heaven or Hell?
Panel 4: Jesse walks in front of another big office building.
Panel 5: He looks at the sign in the window and it says “Hell Inc.” Jesse: Hmm . . .
Panel 6: Jesse walks in the door.
Page 6 Panel 1: Jesse enters the lobby and on the other side of it a man in a suit greets him. The man has gelled black hair and a goatee. This is Lucifer. Lucifer: Jesse, my boy! Welcome!
Panel 2: Lucifer shakes Jesse’s hand. Lucifer: How are you doing? Jesse: Alright, I guess. You are . . .? Lucifer: Lucifer.
Panel 3: They walk. Jesse: Of course. Nice place here. Lucifer: It’s not what you expected. You expected fire and brimstone and me to have a tail. That’s because that’s what god’s PR men told you. You only heard one side of the story.
Panel 4: Lucifer continues. Lucifer: I thought I could run Heaven better back in the day and tried to take over. When I failed, I struck out on my own and started up this place. Of course, to not lose business, god made up a whole bunch of lies about me and my company. “Oh, he’s so evil!” Bullshit.
Panel 5: Lucifer and Jesse stop. Lucifer: They kicked you out didn’t they? For trying to help people by not causing them pain. That’s Heaven for you. Willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to get more business. You see why I wanted to change things? Jesse: Beginning to. Have room for a guy like me in your organization?
Panel 6: Lucifer puts his arm around Jesse’s shoulder. And they begin to walk again. We look at them from behind. Lucifer has a tail sticking out. Lucifer: I think we can find something for someone of your talents. Can you still make things happen just by thinking about them? Jesse: Check your ass. |
