Whether he's covered in caked mud and wearing a skirt (okay, it's really a tunic), ice skates (John), a well-worn too-tight brown suit (Bud), busting out of a white shirt (Jeffrey), in a spiffy uniform (Lachlan), chained and wet in a preacher's collar (gotta love Cort), sleeveless and on a horse (East), or barely covering his wonderful body with just a skimpy towel (hey there, Jeff!), The Man just looks good!


But while we Barbarians may wrangle over what is the most appealing feature of our leader's appearance, or what color his eyes are, or how tall he is or isn't, or whether or not he shaves his tummy hair (yes, this was a real debate), it's what's inside him that keeps us clinging ferociously to his tunic.

We understand that Russell may feel queasy about the objectification of his body; for someone who has been filmed in his lovely birthday suit in two flicks (Hammers Over the Anvil, Virtuosity), and damn-near naked in five more (Proof, For the Moment, Breaking Up, The Sum of Us, Romper Stomper), he's awfully shy about his physical beauty. But that is why he is The Man. Any moron can take his clothes off and strut around like he's God's Gift. When he's also sensitive about being considered a "sex symbol," and bristles at the very idea of the term, then you've got someone worth listening to, and watching, for reasons other than his body parts. But it's a good start.
