B5 was born around 1963, almost certainly to B11, the matriarch then. When he was born, the pod consisted of five whales (that we know of): his mom, his uncle Baronet, his sister Scarlett, and his brothers Hooker and B3.
The year after B5 was born, Scarlett had her first known calf, Izumi.
B5 grew up probably playing with Izumi, since they were only a year apart.
In 1973, B5 lost his mom. He was only ten years old at the time. He also got his youngest brother, Bauza, who was orphaned at the same time. Bauza would become one of his good playmates as well.
Around 1978, B5 really began to mature, and he started to play with his older brothers and uncle.
In 1983, B5 became fully mature at the age of 20.
Sadly, only 2 years later, B5 passed away. His death was very surprising to researchers, since he was only 22.
