Ripple was born in 1981, to Stripe (A23). She was the second calf of Stripe's to be born during the study, and first born during the study to survive.
When she was born, Ripple's family consisted of her mom, and her brother Okisollo, who was 10 at the time.
For nine years the three traveled together with the rest of A5 pod. When Ripple was five, another calf was born into the pod, Nodales (A51). They probably played together.
When Ripple was eleven years old, Stripe gave birth for the last time, to Ripple's little brother Fife. The next year, Ripple had her first calf, A63. Sadly, the calf died the same year.
Three years later, Ripple had her second, and so far last, calf, Midsummer (A69). This one thankfully survived.
Then, within the next five years, both her mother and her brother died, leaving Ripple as the matriarch of the pod. In 2003, her brother was hit by a boat and heavily scarred. Without the close bonds of his sister and niece, he probably would not have survived.
Recently, when the orphan Springer was re-released into the wild, she spent time with the small matriline.
Now, Ripple is 24 years old, and Midsummer is 9. She'll probably have another calf soon, but for now, it's just her, Fife, and her daughter.
