NOTE: Salt Lake City, Utah, chosen in 1998, to host the 2002 Winter Olympics, allegedly did more than a little vote-buying in order to enhance its chances, providing International Olympic Committee members with college tuition money for their kids and female "escorts" for themselves. Then IOC President, Juan Antonio Samaranch, promised to get to the bottom of the scandal. Several top IOC officials were booted out of office, several were strongly reprimanded, a few had their hands slapped, and a couple came away smelling like roses. Go figure! As for the SLOC officials charged, the case FINALLY went to court, where they were found innocent of all charges (other than poor judgement).
