I am the strength of the heart and the root
I am the soul of the wood

-Brenda Craven

Moon Tears is the self-proclaimed mother of the meadow. She even seems to think that she's my mother sometimes. She's a very loyal friend, though. Especially to the other residents of the meadow. And wise, she's very wise with her age, being the eldest of the Dryads. Her tree is a large weeping willow whose branches are often the resting place for anyone she knows who is staying in the meadow over night.

Snow Blossom is a dryad who's linked to a very rare tree that borders the actual meadow of the forest. Her tree is one that blooms only in the winter with white and red blossoms. It also has a special little ornament on one of the top branches. One of Miguel's bandanas which Cinnamon got for her hangs there. He may mutter about it every now and then, but I can find comfort in it, considering it to be a Sanchez blessing on the meadow. Snow Blossom herself is one of the more curious of the dryads. She loves outsiders and is always watching them to try and find out more about the outside world.

Ashes is, I think the very first dryad ever to have accepted a proposal of marriage. Leave it to her to be the first one, though. She loves to run around and have fun and she loves the outside world as well. She'd give a lot just to go see what the outside world is like for awhile.

Kifrak is the nut who proposed to Ashes. He's a fire elemental curiously enough, but I'm forever in debt to him since he used his powers over fire to make so the forest can't be harmed by fire again. He's a little crazy, but hey, aren't we all? Thanks to Ashes, he now knows how to climb trees the right way. No clothing at all.

Season is linked to a large pine tree in the middle of the forest. She's a fairly serious dryad and likes to think things through quite a bit. She's working right now on learning to read and write so I can gather up some books for her to read about the world outside. She loves hearing about it, but doesn't really want to see it for herself. She is also one who knows a lot about what goes on in the meadow second only to me.

Breeze is the youngest and smallest of the dryads, being about the size of an elf and very, very shy. She's more scared of the people outside of the meadow than anything and the other dryads are very protective of her. She's tied to a cottonwood tree.

What do we plant when we plant a tree?
We plant the ship that will cross the sea,
We plant the mast to carry the sails,
We plant the planks to withstand the gales-
The keel, the keelson, and beam and knee-
We plant the ship when we plant the tree.
Henry Abbey

Why do you hide, O dryads! when we call,
With pleading hands up-lifted?
Smile and bless us again that all be well;
Smile again on your children.
